It is a complex subject and not something to get involved in unless you are prepared to wade through loads of information. I would suggest you contact a Benefits Adviser at your local CAB who can give you expert advice and assistance, for free........

There is al;so benefitsandwork.co.uk that give alot of advice about claiming benefits, as nowadays it is not easy on any medical grounds. ATOS Health Professionals will sign you fit even if your GP says you aren't. It is a good website and some info is free, but full information has a charge.

If you have a specific disease, you can google the name of it and ATOS Training after it, and you can actually find out what training etc the ATOS people are getting. Also under the freedom of information act, you can ask for copies of anything concerning ATOS.

Anyone can make a claim for DLA:
DLA has two parts:
Care component - if you need help looking after yourself or supervision to keep you safe
Mobility component - if you can't walk or find it very hard to walk, or you need help getting around
Some people will be entitled to receive just one component; others may get both.

You will need supporting letters from consultants ,GP

If you do make a claim ,,,,,,DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF ,,, GET HELP from CAB

Its a lottery with the decision maker you get ,,,if bother to read the letters

believe it or Not ,,,I was refused DLA, :?:

I have NO use of my legs or most of my right side from neck down ,I suffer from incontinence, 24/7 chronic pain, I have spinal injury in my lower back ,Multi level cervical damage ,thats inoperable due to the high risk my condition is progressive . I have carers in to help me every day

At the time I was physically unable to fill in any form ,Today i can only use my left hand i
am right handed or i was . :?
CAB came to the hospital and filled all forms in with covering letters from consultants statement of heath from GP ,
I was REFUSED DLA ? Requested DWP review DLA ,,still refused ,
Waited 6 months for the appeal with CAB help ,The Panel overturned the DWP the Court Awarded hirer rates on both parts . With all payments back dated , no time limit on award
Panel told DWP , this case should never have come to appeal :?:

I use the mobility part to help fund my electric wheelchair £8,300.00 will last around 3 years

Talking to my CAB office telling me that are overloaded with DLA appeals seems nearly everyone is being turned down :?:
The other thing now, if CAB have not helped you fill out the forms are unwilling to help with
any appeal due to the work load

its more how you word your reply in each part


Now ! Do you believe this DWP wish to review my case this September ?
and requested an Atos doctor to come out to my house for new medical,
my GP is so disgusted with all this has asked to be present when the Atos doctor calls
I have agreed to this
I asked why the review when my condition is progressive and there is NO Fix
told need the medical for our records ?

So my advise is ASK FOR HELP!!!

Apparently plans for everyone will have to have a Atos medical min every 3 years
Even if you have a permanent progressive condition ?

Get advise from CAB or other welfare rights organisation.
If CAB / welfare advisors advise you to apply, get them to help you fill in forms.
If DWP decision maker turns you down, appeal, with help of whoever helped you fill in forms.

I agree, I got DLA without appeal, but I had to ask them to review the decision and I would have taken it to appeal if necessary. I have to go before the ATOS health person again on 11th April. I sent in 34 pages of additional information on my last form, as their spaces did not allow for enough information. Just the drugs and medication alone took 4 pages.......type on computer at size 12 font size-so not huge writing!!!!

Definitely best to get advice and help with filling in forms. I do think I was lucky not having to send any additional letters from consultants etc.

Fantastic bowell that you have a gp willing to come out when Atos person there. Don't forget they do request to see bedroom areas and toilets etc and look at storage of medicines etc....

I have already had so called Atos home medical before , thats what started my problem
It was a very quick visit ,did not wish to see anything just asked a few questions and left
could not believe the medical report that he filed ,The only thing correct was my name ,
with statements like he is only on mild pain killers ?,when i take two types morphine to start with
Lucky we recorded the medical and sent a transcript copy to DWP ,Atos and the appeal.
Told it could not be taken into account, but all parties new full well the Atos medical was very suspect, Cab told the panel i was subjected to an Atos Drive by Medical. :shock:

My home is more like a hospital than a home now My bed is electric a hospital bed with full lifting equipment installed ,All toilets have been adapted ,have ramps installed front and back.
The door ways made wider . I have full care assessment paperwork from social services wih care needs are listed as substantial , have Emg button call alert around my neck at all times ,plus all the daily records from the carers ,the home visit logs from Dist nurse ,incontinence nurse ,letters from untold numbers of consultants , Meds locker I now take over 50 tablets a day, 3 wheelchairs ,one electric for home use ,one electric for outside use, one attendant wheelchair ,Stair lift host , electric bath lift the list goes on and on and on and on and on

If You can self propel a manual wheelchair 30meters that is now classed as walking ???

I just think it is pretty dire that the vulnerable people in society have to be subjected to these appalling persons. What is really scary is that these ATOS people are trained to be so horrible to the vulnerable people.

I see there has been a lot of debate about interviews being recorded by the 'customers' and I think (not sure) that they are going to allow some sort of recording in the future?

I wish I could get my MP to attend with me, I know last year that my husband had to get the ATOS person to apologise twice to me. It was absolutely awful. He lied on his report a numbe of times, the worst one that sticks in my brain is where he saysI was offered a female attendant. I wasn't. I don't myself worry about it, but there are a number of vulnerable ladies that would like a female attendant....

What amuses me is the way they send out a public transport means of getting to their office.....when they time everything for sitting and standing-and yet the public transport method for me statesd that it would take 2 hours to get there!!!With an allowance time of 2 minutes to get from bus stop to the office....on their timings it would get me to the office 4 minutes before my official appointment, and yet they ask you to be there 10 minutes prior to interview!!!! They start their cunning ways even prior to getting to their offices.....

Yep, I have heard as well about their 'imaginary wheelchair'-the list of their 'fitness' tests doesn't know any boundaries, and I think personally it will get worse. Before we know it, if you can use a laptop whilst being confined in bed we will be counted as fit.....

Never go by public transport as this will prove you can walk over 500mts also sit for over 1hr

The wheelchair ramps to the Atos medical are not standard and way to steep

I always phone and demand to send me a wheelchair taxi paid for by them
also ask for a set time as I will have to medicate to cover my pain in that period

Last two times however sent letter back saying I need not attend ? for ESA
