Hi, I've come back here as I need some more motivation/support to reduce my hbac1 score which is currently at 72. Admittedly I rejoined Slimming World for accountability though I was wondering if any of you have any groups to help keep you accountable.

I also noticed that SW is the opposite of Low carb because I could eat shedloads of carbs on it - rice and pasta.

What do you do to keep yourself motivated ? Main thing here is determination not to tkae more pills/go on insulin. Though I value this group for suggestions.

Thanks

Don't follow the SW plan, it's counts high carb foods as Syn free, pure kryptonite for a diabetic

What did your meter say about these "shedload of carbs"

Come on forums like this, far more valuable than dietary dogma that causes more harm than good.

(1) Research low carb
(2) Get a meter
(3) Eat to the meter

The only advantage to weight watchers and slimmers world, is to them as you are lining their pockets.
Your current Hba1c tells you how bad they are.
DON'T count calories, count carbs.
Try low carb, cut out all the Bread, Pasta, Rice, Potatoes, Pastry and most fruit, berries are ok in smaller amounts.
Base your meals on meat, fish, EGGS, butter, cream or FULL FAT yoghurt, leafy green veg, avoid below ground vegs, unless you test your reaction to them via pre and post meal readings. You may be able to tolerate smaller amunts of them.
DON'T be scared of fat, contrary to EVERYTHING you've been told, they are your friends, and no problem at all provided you don't mix them in a diet with CARBS.
Look on the success stories thread, to see how well you could be doing.

Weight Watchers and Slimming World will push carbs at you. I would not recommend it for anyone, but definitely harmful IMO for anyone with diabetes.

See if you can find a local Low-Carb Group near you. They won't be selling you anything and there is no weighing or anything like that. Plenty of support, in my experience. The Public Health Collaboration has a couple of useful resources that might help you track down something close to you.

If you did low carb especially Keto, you would be dieing to be weighed, as your losses would knock everyone else into a cocked hat.
