Good Evening

Ill try and keep this short.

Over the past few years, about once a month i get the following symptons.

1. Dizzy
2. Absolute starvation
3. shakes
4. anxious

I had the last episode at around 19:30 tonight, as being at work i had only my piece with me. So i ate 2 tins of tuna and i had Glucose tablets with me as a precaution, so i ate 3 off them aswell. 15 minutes later i am back to around 90% feeling better still slightly woosyish but that could just be cos im nightshift. Normally when i have these episodes i eat around 5 bowls of cornflakes, mars bars, crisps and biscuits etc but the last 2 times i have tried to eat a small amount and there is now difference really. I just feel i need to stuff my face.

So i started the ball rolling with my doc around 6 months ago and got a glucose tolerence test. So i went down at 9am having fasted since 6pm the day prior and they took blood and gave me a glass of lucozade. At 11:30 i returned for the next set off bloods. The results all came back fine but at around 12:15 i had an episode but it was too late for bloods etc.

Next step was last week i went into hospital for 3 days.

Day 1 - Fast from previous day at midnight - blood taken at 9am sent home
Day 2 - Fast from previous day at 8pm - blood taken at 9am sent home
Day 3 - Fast from previous day at 4pm - blood taken from 9am every half hour while fasting

Nothing found all bloods fine

So thursday i fasted from 4pm then went into hospital on friday and still fasting so they were trying to bring on an episode.
So i lasted till 4pm and still no episode...typical eh

So tonight i had an episode out off the blue.

So what happens now is that i have been given a blood sample bag and my tests are all written on it, so if i have an episode my wife drives me straight to hospital and i goto day meds and they take bloods asap.

Strange thing is my bloods are fine at the time but i have never had an episode or even nrealy had one.

Yes i am over weight around 16st 12lbs at 6ft tall.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar or could shine a light

thanks

sorry for the novel.

Re: Do i have diabetes

Hi sorry to hear you haven't been feeling to well.
Short answer is no one here can diagnose diabetes.
If you have had tests done and they proved negative then obviously you haven't got diabetes :)

Re: Do i have diabetes

Well, they have certainly tested you enough and found nothing relating to diabetes so therefore you cannot be diabetic.

You need to lose weight (you know that) reduce the amount of carbs you eat and take some excercise.

If you still have "funny turns" then maybe there is something else wrong? Your doctor is the one to sort things out.

Re: Anyone had similar to this

Main thing is i havent had an episode for a couple of months yet since last monday i have been on a diet.

Around 2000 cals per day

Breakfast - oats & berries

Lunch - Home made soup and tuna sandwich on brown bread

Dinner - meat / small amount of brown rice and loads of veg

snack - fromage frias or fruit

So it must be something diet related as i didnt have one when eating 3000 cals

Re: Anyone had similar to this

Have you done any research on reactive hypoglycaemia or have your doctors mentioned it as a possibility? It's not only diabetics who get hypoglycaemia.

Re: Anyone had similar to this

Thanks for the reply

i have read about hypoglycaemia and also Hyperinsulinemia

i have similar traits to both off these

Re: Anyone had similar to this

I have a similar thing happening on a daily basis & have an app with hospital Endo consultant on Friday. I'm type 2 & I wake with bloods of around 10 - 12mmol which steadily increases as the day goes on upto around 20+ at dinnertime, but early evening every evening my bloods crash to less than 2mmol with full hypo symptoms. I was on 2 types of medication but the DSN have made me stop both to prove its not the meds causing the crash. Just gotta wait till Friday now, (my original app was 8th of Jan but they've got me in quicker cus it's driving me insane).
Any ideas?

Paul

Re: Anyone had similar to this

Let us know what happens mate

Would it be worth while buying a blood glucose monitor so when i do have an episode i could take a test if i cant get upto hospital

I had a similar thing happen to me, it started happenng about every 6 or 8 weeks, one thing was I was just so cold and couldn't get warm. This gradually got worse and worse. I had been to the doctors but they had no idea, I also had blood test but didn't show anything. It was happening about once a week so I went to the hospital to see my diabetic specialist. He asked me when I was taking my thyroid medication, so I told him in the morning after breakfast. That's the problem..... he said take it in the morning when you wake up before breakfast.
Well that was over a year ago and I havent had another attack since. Maybe you have a thyroid issue?

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

So how do i go about getting a thyroid check

cheers

Ask at your GP's or DSN/Diabetic Specialist about this ?
There 'is a link' with underactive/hypothyroidism and diabetes I was told .
Worth having this checked out
Hope this helps?
Anna.

hey, I do not believe you have an issue with glucose metabolism, your Drs have done an extensive and detailed investigation into this and all your indices are normal. that's the evidence we have.
there is an association between thyroid hormone and diabetes, but its hyperthyroidism rather than hypothyroid that can do that as thyroid hormone is diabetogenic.. request a thyroid function test from your Gp it is a simple blood test.
I think you should consider an anxiety/panic type illness with your Gp as typically they can mimic any illness, but the big characteristic is that every test done comes back within normal limits, please explore this
I do wish you luck in your search, and hope I have helped in a small way :)

Hi,
Either go to your Doctors and he will give you the blood test form to take to the hospital if his surgery can't do it there and then. Just a simple test then at least you will know. If it is that then the fix is easy.
