Do I have prediabetes based on these results?

Hi @Ryola

The following is speculative, so feel free to take it with a pinch of salt.

You mentioned severe insomnia and may have leaky gut.
Leaky gut is associated with malabsorption.
And magnesium deficiency is associated with insomnia.
See where I am going with this?

My story:
Had a bad gut upset over a year ago that has left me with malabsorption and a fibre ‘intolerance’
Within 2 months of that starting my sleep deteriorated to torture levels. Terrible sleep deprivation.
After 6 months of that I would have chewed my own arm off for a decent night’s sleep.
Then I stumbled across a reference to magnesium and insomnia.
The suggestion was to try tablet supplements unless there were malabsorption problems. In that case use magnesium oil rubbed on the skin.
I got some and used it.
And slept well that night, and every night since.

Magnesium oil comes in many different brands and different price ranges, so (if you are interested) shop around. But a website with good info is the ‘Ancient Minerals’ one.

I could of sworn I was given magnesium oil for sleeping from my ex, or might of been something entirely else and it didnt help. If anything I eat cacao nibs nearly every day and suppsably they're jam packed with magnesium. I'll look into this though and take you're advice as well as consuming more magnesium rich foods.

It really is torture though, the sleeping. Ugh. I can't properly sleep unless I take a heavy duty Dr prescribed sleeping pill but the downside as everybody knows is that when you wake up you feel like you've been hit by a truck, you're overly groggy and don't really have the energy to take on the day plus you don't get REM sleep either.

Actually, if a person is not absorbing magnesium because of malabsorption, then taking more oral supplements won't help, because they are not absorbing them in your digestive tract, so the supplement passes right through and ends up in the toilet pan.

This was my problem.
Of course I don't know if it is your problem.

This is why I suggested the magnesium oil, which is applied to the skin and absorbed through it.

In my case, I spent a significant amount on good quality magnesium supplements over several years, and that money was completely wasted on the sewage system. Likewise, eating high magnesium foods was a waste of time too. My gut simply doesn't absorb enough of the nutrient to correct a deficiency. Whereas my skin seems to absorb it excellently.

As always, your mileage may vary.

And yes, insomnia is torture. I used to feel like my whole body was aching, with a special focus behind my eyes. And brain fog...

I'm starting to have second thoughts on this lactulose and manitol intestinal/permeability leaky gut test....there just seems like theres too much room for error here.

I don't want to spend $530 CAD including over night shipping if the test results may not even be accurate. I can't afford to waste any more time here, over 12 years have passed me by and I've barely been 'living' living. Maybe there's a better way to go about this or maybe the test really is worth taking....I mean I have to try something here and I need to know for sure if I do in fact have LG. I just want to out rule it.

Here's an article showing the pros and cons of each test associated with diagnosing leaky gut

I'm going to stop by my local grocery store and grab some of this stuff and put it to the test. As for now, my sleeping cycle is in complete reverse again, ala vampire mode. I'm basically going to sleep in the afternoon and waking up at 10:00 at night. Eek. It's so much easier for me sleeping this way, but obviously not ideal. No Brainer.

Still contemplating on going through with that intestinal permeability test. Supposedly it has given numerous amounts of false positives. Sigh
