Do you believe in this method of treating diabetes

Part of my losing weight strategy is using exercise.I'm type 2 ,the traditional 'apple' shape. The amount of fatty tissue round your middle contributes to insulin resistance therefore it makes sense to try and reduce the girth with exercise. He is not claiming that exercise cures diabetes, just that it helps control it,which I find does help.

Knowledge is the key to control

As far as weight is concerned, I really can't afford to lose any more weight!:|

I am 6ft tall and allways sat around 11-13 stone,2 years before diagnosis I went to 15.7 stone and felt pregnant!(symtoms of lada,I now know), then dropped like a brick to under 9 stone and looked like skin and bone, what made things worse is that the weight came off my face more than anywhere and I looked awfull, eeeeek thinking back!, I now have stabilized to 12 stone and look ok again (not that im an oil painting lol) Anyway I am happy with my weight so trying to keep it this way as much as possible.

Now that I am fairly stable it will be interesting if i put any weight back on again as in more so, the only prob i have is that my legs never really gained normality again and they are so thin and generally weak(looks horrid around my knees!)so baggy trousers is the key even in summer.

I too use exercise as part of the weight loss regime. The exercise comprises walking the household's 7 Whippets (and for the last 2 weeks 2 visiting Cavaliers) so I cover around 8 miles per day with the 4 younger dogs - trying to keep a pace at around 2 miles in under 25 minutes. The older dogs get around 3 leisurely miles on the local beach at low tide.

I am confident that this amount of exercise, coupled with just a bit more care with eating habits, has resulted in the weight loss, mostly around the waist, and the significant reduction in blood sugar levels. My target weight is 11 st 7 (although the Consultant wants more)and after 8 months I now have less that 1 stone to lose.

Everything points to my diabetes problem being very much affected by lifestyle so the increase exercise since I retired, I used to visit the gym, sauna and steam room 4 times a week, seems to have done trick.

I should add that I now view my diabetes as more of a nuisance than a problem - because there are a couple of 'goodies' that I do miss. My next visit to the Clinic and Consultant is on 13 March. Should not be subjected to the harangue I received on the first visit.
