Just curious what kind of rationing you suggest?

Complex. I can only look at things from a personal perspective, although I do try and take in the bigger picture. I'm on a lot of Meds, eligible for free scripts on medical grounds but have been in a position where I wasnt, struggled terribly to get enough money together for my pre-payment cert. I think the group that is hit the hardest is those who are either working and on a poor wage, or those who are just over the level for income support, but are unable to work, such as carers looking after a loved one. People on Carers Allowance gets grand total of £61 per week, and no help with prescriptions..
Deciding which drugs would keep people alive is more or less impossible. Hypertension if untreated can cause stroke etc, diuretics are another long term one but essential for some.

As for the elderly, people are living longer and have more health issues as they age. They have paid into the NHS their entire lives and it is often the HCP's that demand their attendance for appts - I know that from experience.

I don't claim to sees way past the current system to be honest, imperfect though it is.
