I’m not a normal eater with regards times , I always get asked when I go to hospital how many units of insulin I take , I say my Basel is the same my Bolus I don’t know , it varies dependant on what I eat (if anything ) what my bs is at the time so really it varies , if my blood sugar is in range and I’m not eating for whatever reason I don’t take my Bolus , I always take my Basel no matter what , but it’s imperative to test blood sugars or else how will you know . It’s relatively common knowledge that being ill tends to raise blood sugars which in turn increases insulin requirements , but testing is always the key . i was diagnosed in 1980 and like you doctor 2 said , I was told always take your insulin , but it was 2 insulins a day back then and eating to the insulin you were given , and home blood monitoring wasnt abailable to me then, if you couldn’t eat it was difficult , treatment today makes it a lot easier , if it was me I’d ignore doctor 2 , follow advice of doctor 1 alongside increased blood sugar testing with correction doses until levels get back to normal
