Do you keep track of your fibre consumption ?

Interesting to know if members make sure they get enough fibre in their diet ? ,especially as this can have a positive effect on your blood glucose values.

The important issue here is the INFLUENCE OF THE FIBRE ON BLOOD GLUCOSE VALUES and not so much on regularity.

No I don't maybe I should. I kind of ...erm...notice if I'm not having enough, but it would seem sensible to put things right before my body tells me I need to.
 
You usually get so much fibre from all the above ground vegs you eat when low carbing so I don't think it will be much of a problem.
 
I keep a close watch on all parts of my diet, including fibre. I use MyFitnessPal to keep a detailed and accurate food diary so always have this sort of info to hand :)
 
We add *a lot* of veg to our recipes so we are okay for fibre on low carb. And if there is ever an issue, psyllium husks are your friend.
 
I notice your edit about BG's, but my diet already keeps them low, so I don't need added fibre for that reason.......but sometimes I do for the 'other reason'
 
I add flax seed to my diet ...there are other choices ....I never used to have problems ....and on a veggie diet as well :rolleyes:
 
The whole 5 a day thing is a bit of a con (in my opinion).

But then I've never been able to imagine life without generous vegetable portions in it.
How people manage to not eat even the minimum amount of veg beggars belief.

I usually have 3 or 4 different types of veg every day, and fruit, maybe 4 times a week.
My portion sizes are much larger than the '5 a day' tiddly little portions...

After a very rare day when I haven't eaten enough, l definitely notice a difference in my comfort levels and bathroom visits. In which case, psyllium husks are fab.

But I never count fibre grammes.
 
I keep a rough track of it but seem to be having enough with the veggies I eat and 9 bars and also dark choc has fibre in too! I did work out I had 18g fibre yesterday and I think that's the RDA.
 

I've just used that and it says I need 20g a day . It says this figure is based on a diet of 1242 calories per day--the appropriate amount of calories per day based on my age and weight. My God, on those calories I'd be 7 stone by now. I need 1600 calories to maintain my current weight.

Clearly not a very good calculator!

Yes I checked myself out and was advised 1554.3 calories and 26 grams of fibre. Other sites indicated I should eat at around 28 grams fibre.. The surprise for me was the ****** little calorie allowance @ 1554.3 calories [ love the precision down to the last 0.3 of a calorie.] I eat 1800 calories /day.
 
Guidelines on fiber intake[edit]
Current recommendations from the United States National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, suggest that adults should consume 20–35 grams of dietary fiber per day, but the average American's daily intake of dietary fiber is only 12–18 grams.[70][75]

The AND (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, previously ADA) recommends a minimum of 20–35 g/day for a healthy adult depending on calorie intake (e.g., a 2000 Cal/8400 kJ diet should include 25 g of fiber per day). The AND's recommendation for children is that intake should equal age in years plus 5 g/day (e.g., a 4 year old should consume 9 g/day). No guidelines have yet been established for the elderly or very ill. Patients with current constipation, vomiting, and abdominal pain should see a physician. Certain bulking agents are not commonly recommended with the prescription of opioids because the slow transit time mixed with larger stools may lead to severe constipation, pain, or obstruction.

The British Nutrition Foundation has recommended a minimum fiber intake of 18 g/day for healthy adults.[76]
