Yes, your blood sugar is absolutely fine. I suspect you are worrying as you have had GD in the past and have had T1 in the familly. I would check your blood sugar every so often just in case it keeps moving up. In diabetes, dehydration or feeling thirsty usually results from excessive urination to get rid of sugar when blood sugar is above around 11mmol

Have you tried just drinking more water?

If you drink at least 2 litres a day, find you are still dehydrated but constantly urinating then there is probably something not working correctly.
However from your BG readings it doesn't look to be diabetes, so you should talk to your GP about other causes.

Hopefully you are not restricting your fluid intake because you are worried that urinating shows that you have diabetes.
Drink lots of water - 3 litres or more if you like - and see if you are still dehydrated.

Oh, and how do you know that you are dehydrated?

Cheers

As the others have said, Higher end but still "normal" That being said if your BG is creping up, keep testing occaisionally, and perhaps try trimming carb intake (if not already doing so!)

I don't understand why you are upset. Could you elaborate.

You say you have chronic dehydration. Are you reaching treatment, have you had blood test to determine if you are lacking in some minerals due to symptoms?

These articles explain dehydration and when a Dr. need to be involved.

hello anonymous - keep posting so that we can help you get to the bottom of it.
You are right to keep an eye on things as you had gestational diabetes (me too). I wish I had found this site before I developed type 2 diabetes - I could have done much to modify my diet and lifestyle and possibly avoided or delayed it.
Look at the recommendations for low carbs and more fat, you might find it helpful to eat this way (well everyone would really)
However, at the moment your glucose levels are ok, so look to other reasons for the dehydration.
By the way, how do you know you have chronic dehydration - has the doctor said that and what are the symptoms?

There is something called diabetes insipidus too, not only diabetes mellitus. Diabetes insipidus has nothing at all to do with blood sugar but you pee a lot and is chronically dehydrated. It can be caused by you pituitary not working properly due to trauma, a tumour, usually benign, or other causes. You need to get electrolytes tested to start with and then the pituitary hormones of course. I found extra salt helped me a lot but you should have the tests first.

Have you tested postprandial bg? I assume your 5-5+ readings are fbg? You might get a better picture what your bg is up to if you test after meals.

Keep in mind that a normal fasting blood glucose is not enough to rule out type 2 diabetes. One can have normal fasting blood glucose but diabetic levels of blood glucose after meals. You need an HbA1c test and/or an oral glucose tolerance test.

Congratulations! This isnt a club we really want to be in so I wouldn't be upset about the result. I'll swap with you if you want

As others have said, there could be many other factors including diet. Try logging all of your food in myfitnesspal.com and see what your salt content etc is like. The more information you have the more you can inform your Dr and work towards a successful diagnosis.
