Doctors and Bloody Pills

been type 2 and the fact i get no sodding help from the NHS at all
does anyone else doctor always seem to be pushing you to take pills. saw a doctor today said he wants me to take ACE inhibitors to protect my kidney. but no one else mentioned these and my microblaumin test was normal. i said errrr no your ok thanks. i just dont see why they push me to take pills. im loosing weight and still loads to go so my blood pressure should go down with that anway
 
Ace inhibitors do help protect the kidneys and this can only be seen in a positive light for those who are diabetic and take bp meds, however if you bp is fine and you don't wish to take meds then the choice is yours.
 
Hi Turvell, I empathise. I am a statin refusnik and every time I have my check up my Doc tries to put me back on them. I had a check up last year where my sugar had gone up slightly and she wanted to put me on a new med (already on two). I said give me three months to drop some weight instead. To her credit she agreed and at my recent check my sugar had dropped below 7, which was good news. However, my overall cholesterol was up to 6.6. So we started the statin conversation again. I asked her to check the breakdown and, guess what, my triglycerides were down, HDL up and LDL down. So again I refused the statins.

It is what they are trained to do. It is the rare doctor that can look past the generic to the individual.

My biggest weapon is to be informed which it sounds like you are.
 
I was offered statins at my "welcome to type2" announcement but the nurse wasn't pushy. My hdl LDL ratio wasn't bad. I was prescribed omeprazole about 7 years ago for gut problems... Now I can't get off em and I am positive that the fact that omeprazole enabled me to eat copious amounts and drink booze like never before, it helped with the onset of my type2.

If your BP is fine, then there's probably no need. If your BP is raised, then they do have benefits.
My first blood and urine test results showed possible kidney problems, but after 3 months on a calcium channel blocker (can't take ACE inhibitors), no sign of any problems where that's concerned.
 
I take omperazole too and I think one of the side effects is kindney damage

Mmmmm. Dunno if that's the case. The prescribe them like sweats so there would be plenty of data to support such an observation. I've reduced my omeprazole medication to 1 20mg pill every 3 or 4 days.

My dr tried to get me to take statins, l could have killed my other half l could feel him trying not to laugh as he shook beside me. The dr and l had a huge argument almost ended up trading insults you will die ...then l die no problem... you wont die you will be a drain on family who have to look after you... is ok l will refuse treatment ... you wont be allowed on and on we went.
I won the argument.

Spoke the my DN at first check a couple of weeks later she said ermm yes, he can be a bit .. well umm forceful. See how you go on diet and lifestyle. Am looking forward to feb and my fist hba1c and re cholestrol test..

My mum was basically killed by tablet drs and their anti depressants over about 20 yrs instead of sending her to proper counselling at the very start. Once her dr said well you been on these over 10 years should really come off them... but here is a script for a years supply.
She wanted to come off the dr said oh just stop them, l bew a stack and told him there was no way he was in the right saying that,,, he was a bit taken aback at my temper told me not to be silly no reason to worry.
I spoke to drug rehab who sent me the correct info, she insisted the t**t dr cleared it, he was fine and shocked there was a regime why would anyone need one but go ahead. It took her with my help (doing her timetable of withdrawal and assistance) nearly 2 years to wean her off, at which point she went for something else and the sodding dr put her on a different make of antidepressant...instead of counselling.
Her depression got worse over the years she stayed "together" tried various counselling sessions l arranged and she paid for but all private but with all the anti depressants she never had a chance.
Then Dad then couple months later my Brian (husband) died and mum died inside, she finally passed just under 3 years later last year.
 
mud island dweller i could not agree with you more. lets face it were we all popping pills a 100 years ago? no i dont think so. the answers to all my problems are simple and as far as i can see they do not involve drugs.

blood pressure to high. = exercise more loose weight and eat more fruit and veg

cholesterol too high = pretty much same as above.

HBA1C to high = will also go down with the above and the fact that i no longer eat sugar other than that which occurs naturally.

Too fat = loosing weigh like there is no tomorrow as we speak.

I have given up on my doctors and i will go back in 6 months when im 5 stone lighter and ask for a rull re evaluation.

i see a different doctor everytime i go there and everyone of them wants me on some pills or another and i have refused them all, the answer is within us all and if we want to be fit and healthy then its up to us. not some pills. doctors are biased and not only do they get more money for pushing pills but they also find it easier. you should hear some of the **** my doctors come out with. in fact im half considering recording my sessions on my phone in secret.

this is the same surgery that last year laughed at me and called stupid year before last when i said i think i might be type 2.

on another note. i only now eat food i made myself from fresh ingridients and i never buy or eat anything processed and now the weight is falling off and i feel like im 19 again.

on a personal note im very very sorry to hear about the problems you have had in the past i truly feel for you, and i whish and hope that you have more happiness in the future to come.

again we all have to power to beat this thing. so lest DO IT X
 
that is also true but now we know about proper nutrition etc. im not saying drugs are a no no, but we should always try to beat it before we have to go down that road.

Agreed! Lifestyle changes should always be the first port of call before pharmaceutical intervention
 
im trying so **** hard right now to fix myself naturally. im not giving advice cus how can i let myslef go in the first place. i just want to loose the weight go back to my doctor who i might ad is an ******* and show him what i mean about natural cures

Not bad mate,thanks for asking Just to add I think you're doing great and give it 6 months or so and your doctor will be speechless-just let him know how you achieved it-you never know he might start advising his other type 2 patients to do what you did.

Do be careful with omeprazole. When I told my doctor at the diabetes clinic yesterday that I had been put on omeprazole several months ago she almost had a seizure (I do have kidney problems too) -- I've never seen her so angry. It can also undermine the beneficial effects of heart medication like clopidogrel. There are alternatives -- definitely worth asking your GP about them

i might not make it but im hoping to and determined to. and i would then advocate a strong lifestyle change. and god knows its not easy at all. i know. if i dont have the body of tom daily by may i give up lol (joke)
 
thats what i thought desi. often if you read the leaflet that comes with these things you would be surprised that half the side affects are the issues you are having. i found out that you are not to use Sudafed if you are diabetic by reading the leaflet and i have used that for the last 5 years
