Doctors and Bloody Pills

Do be careful with omeprazole. When I told my doctor at the diabetes clinic yesterday that I had been put on omeprazole several months ago she almost had a seizure (I do have kidney problems too) -- I've never seen her so angry. It can also undermine the beneficial effects of heart medication like clopidogrel. There are alternatives -- definitely worth asking your GP about them
Thanks for this ... I'll check... I know omeprazole has quite a few negative impacts such as causing reduced calcium and vitamin b12 absorption. Thats why I only take one every. 3-4 days. Trouble is I suffer from barrets esophagus and gurd so I'm in a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. I guess I'll need to check out an alternative. Thanks

Good luck. A while ago I posted a link to a key to drug interactions -- now I can't put my hands on it. I've no objections to taking pills as such, but I worry that so often the different HCPs don't communicate, and people are left on drugs without a proper evaluation of when short-term benefits start to be outweighed by long-term damage. I have an excellent and thoughtful GP, and I had my heart surgery at the best heart hospital in the country, yet they still made mistakes in the prescription. Sadly I think it's for the individual patient to constantly monitor their condition, read up on drugs side-effects, and make sure that doctors are continuing to monitor and test for the effects of drugs. I think we need to think of drug prescriptions as 'invasive' procedures, just as much as surgical ones -- potentially very beneficial, but not to be undertaken lightly.

l got yanked to one side first time dad went into hospital by consultant..he started to demand why my dad think he was in his late 70s early 80s was on the drugs he was on at doses he wouldnt put a healthy 32yr old on and as he drew breath ..
l told him go speak to the idiot dr sort dads drugs and dont get stinky with me.
l got an apology from him he said he was shocked...major drug realignment from then on.

Wasnt only time others later on l caught bad drug doses types thanks to drug bible and pharmacist if l was unsure and challenged them...they were adjusted down and one removed...my folks dr l think would cringe when he heard my voice :-))
