You should at the very least have a yearly check-up Claire, make a point of telling them at your next visit.

Hi Claire,

I live in Wolverhampton and have a great experience, personally.

I had an operation 17 months ago as I had a blood clot that cut off the supply to my pancreas and I had to have 2 mtrs of bowel removed. As a result I am on warfarin and have weekly check ups on my blood-coagulancy levels. The hospital contact me by phone AND in writing for addition appointments, such as 6 monthly diabetes reviews and physiotherapy, on an as and when basis to review my broken arm and shoulder that didn't mend properly. They are really on the ball at New Cross hospital and I have had no problems with them whatsoever.

Thanks

Mart.

Unfortunately some practices don't follow up on the reviews and leave it down to oneself to make the appointments. The only appointments I get made for me are the hospital eye test and the foot screening ones, as these are controlled out side of the GP's practice.

Its very easily to forget and slip of the ladder and forget when your appointment is due, I spoke to one of my docs the other day about a meds review and no mention of a repeat test due next month,

@ my doctors it's the responsibility of the diabetes team to arrange my 3 month HBA1C which strangely I received today so I called the doctors to arrange my blood test and was given a date of 30may which gives the clinic 12 days to get the test results back.

My doctors have been lapse in the past for in relation to updating my medication but apart from that they seem normal. - room for improvement!

Check with the person you actually see what the routine is.I get a letter every year to come in having made an appointment with the nurse and had a blood sample taken. At my own request, i have an HbA1c done in the middle so I get one every 6 months.
In these computerised days they should be able to keep track of patients. If they don't ask to see the practice manager or a member of your patient Participation Group.Supposing they have one.
