Dodgy insulin?

I'm a type 2 who started insulin back in November. I take Lantus every night before bed, and Novorapid before meals. In the last week my morning BS has been around 4.5-5 and last thing before bed it's been 6-7. Last thing last night it was 6.2, but this morning it was 9.8! I've not eaten anything unusual, and its *never* been higher in the morning that the night before. Despite taking extra Novorapid with breakfast, it was still 9.2 at lunchtime. It occurred to me that I started a new Lantus cartridge last night - is it possible that it could be dodgy insulin? Or is it just my pancreas playing silly buggers? I've not got enough experience with insulin to know if this is likely.

Hi it could be the insulin try using a different pen I've had the same happen with the novo rapid I use with my pump good luck with trying a new pen

I had some issues with leaking disposable pens from time to time when I took insulin and the odd cartridge that seemed to leak a bit I used to discard them, as for your results could you be slightly ill, have a dodgy injection site or insulin leaked out post injection? I used to leave the needle in and count 15 seconds to stop any leakage f insulin as I used to sometimes get that and you have no idea how much has leaked out

Hmm, I'm certainly not ill, but I am a bit tender around where I injected last night (he said, poking himself gently). Could be a dodgy injection site. I always count to ten, but maybe I should give it a bit longer for my Lantus, since I'm injecting 42 units...

Thanks, folks!

I used to inject 18 untits of lantus and counted to 15, sometimes injections do seem to just go wrong as I used to do 1500 odd a year it figures that some used to mishap

Hi carandol, i used to take 52 units of lantus at night which worked fine then like u i kept getting highs. The doc told me to split the dose and although it meant two injections for one dose it did work. I dont know if it would work for you but could be worth a try?

Mmm, that's interesting. I'll see what happens over the next few days, and if I'm still too high I'll give my diabetes nurse a call.
