Hi
I am a type1 diabetic with pernicious anemia and a few other complications. I have been diabetic since i was 6yrs old and am now 42. I have border line under active thyroid.
So was just wondering if anyone else suffers with this problem.

Yeah i'm type 1 also , i've been diabetic 21 yrs & find as each yr goes on i find myself getting colder & colder as each yr goes by .

I am type 2 and a very cold person. When in bed I have to duvets, 2 hot water bottles, a nightie nd a jumper on and my dressing gown over the top of duvets! All this so called 'summer' I've had to have 2 duvets on.

I'm the opposite I feel the heat! And I'd always rather be too cold than too hot as you can always put more on, but there's a limit to what you can take off!

hya,
this could be to do with your thyroid as its a symptom, ive been cold even in summer since my thyroid went dicky :)

Ive had thyroid test and I'm fine. As soon as it's cold enough to wear gloves I've tried all sorts none keep my hands warm. I wear 2 pairs and my hands are like ice, same with my feet!

Hi
Thanks for all your replies, my family think I'm going mad. Just because they don't feel the cold all the time.
Now i don't feel so alone.
Thanks Tracey

I have cold hands and feet nearly all the time :( . I have been T1 for 16 yrs. My dad developed diabetes two years ago and he has noticed the same....he is always rubbing his hands.lol. For years he has said to me 'Turn the heating down!!'...'Go and put on more clothes!!' But now the heating is up cos he feels the cold more its me that goes in and opens all the windows and doors  The diabetics all come from his side of the family too-there are 5 of us...i always wondered how it skipped him and i developed it.

I do but it's only since losing weight. I think my thermostat is still programmed to having my now gone insulation.

Tracey...
It 'is' an underactive thyroid symptom, even boderline can be affected... to be feeling so cold.
I was walking round in full heat summer with 3 layers on PLUS cardigan AND coat
Couldn't get warmed up despite the summer heat and was sleeping excessively, had dry flaky skin n stareing swollen eyes!
Weight refused to drop despite eating so little!
Prior to being diagnosed hypo thyroidism ...
Thyroid reacts to iodine , and iron/zinc rich foods , try eating more of these to keep your levels "UP"
As being borderline your GP may not treat with thyroxine just yet?
Feeling cold, dry skin, sleep more than usual, bulging eye balls, sluggy metabolism low energy burn rate
are characteristic symptoms...
Hope this helps.
Anna.
