It seems that the only way I can prevent a hypo in the night is either eat 3 slices of brown bread (50-60 carbs) , or up my lantus but that way my blood sugar is super high in the day time , so either way im gonna have high blood sugar , and im worried about my eyes and stuff like that.

Lantus is a basal insulin and you don't need to eat food following a injection, if your going hypo in the night then you need to reduce your dose, if this effect your daytime bg levels and you go high then you may have to consider split-dosing, I would strongly suggest you speak with your DSN and discuss with them your bg levels and insulin doses.

Did you mean "reduce my Lantus"? Im a bit confused here!

yes , I meant to say reduce.
I had that problem with Lantus. If I wanted it to last into the next evening, I would end up hypoing in the night. You might do better on a different basal, like Levemir or the new one, Tresiba. Keep very good records and get an appointment at your diabetic clinic and ask for a change - at least that's what I would do. I had problems with Lantus for years. I thought it was me. Apparently it wasn't. It doesn't work well for many people.

I agree, if you are hypoing at night with Lantus you need to reduce it its likely much to high. Make sure that your Bolus ratio is correct, you may be going high because your lantus was so high that you were able to reduce your bolus at meals, so when you reduce the lantus that effect is no longer present.

You need to re adjust your lantus so that you stop hypoing at night, and then after that re-check you meal time bolus readings to make sure they are correct and were not off due to having to much basal in your system all day. If you do all that and STILL go high, then look into maybe switching off lantus as others have suggested.

Have you tried splitting your Lantus dose? (Apologies if you're already doing this). Lantus doesn't have as flat an action profile as they would have you think - there's a fairly pronounced peak. Splitting can help to smooth things out. I'd start with 50/50 morning and evening and see how it goes. Obviously speak to your Dr/DSN if you're not happy tweaking stuff yourself.

Hi
How much lantus are you taking at night and are you also having lantus in the morning? The general starting point for lantus these days is a split dose (am and pm). however consult with your health care team.
Cheers

Yes, this happened to me when I first started using Lantus. I started by injecting at 9.00pm and had an overnight hypo 7hrs later. After reducing my dose I was heading very high each morning.

After a week I switched to injecting first thing in the morning and found this gave me a very prominent spike of insulin about 1.00pm. I then made 1.00pm my lunch time and could even have a light lunch without a bolus. After 6 months this spike completely disappeared (over three days) and I could inject my daily dose of Lantus at any time I wanted. I think it's possible that the Lantus dose was lasting a lot longer than 24hrs (my latest injected dose climbing over the tail of my previous dose). To me the timing suggests this. Hope this is some help. JimMax.

I just alternate in between 31 and 30 at night none in the morning , splitting sounds good , yes I will probably ask the diabtetic nurse about it , thanks .

If you trial the injection of your single dose of Lantus first thing in the morning, then by repeated BG testing you should be able to plot the Lantus action by eating nothing until you have to. JimMax.
