Lots of "Bayer Ac1Now discontinued" waffle around 2014 but reputable companies now selling it see link

http://www.bhr.co.uk/home/111-a1cnow-2-test-pack-home-user-test.html
link recommended to my by siemens

reason I need it is ...
lost trust in blood draw people due to fully documented nerve damage
due to "I cant find it lets stab around for a laugh" attitude

But we all need a a1c reading so I need a method

thanks for reading as usual :¬)

Well you learn something every day I did not even know you could by a self test kit for A1c

Also, if you get the test done at your Diabetes clinic appointment, they now take the blood using a finger prick for the test.

Not in my neck of the woods. Still done by vampire in time honoured fashion (as done on Monday)

Not sure about the Bayer A1c Now but on Amazon there are quite a few HbA1c tests
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&...hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_tsakn8red_b

There's also been this is the news recently: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SelfCheck-A...8&qid=1460015533&sr=8-2&keywords=a1c+test+kit

^ Believe that is the A1C Now - not sure if it works as not read any literature to support it, but definitely worth checking out, especially if you can find a review!
Found the following review:

ETA: The link above is to a blog,i.e. someones personal opinion. Having said that it seems to be well researched and reasonably written. it is old info now,

STOP PRESS. Forbes magazine is reporting that Bayer has ceased production of this device and has closed the Metrika plant. it seems Bayer may have wanted to remove a competitor. This news is old (2013) and it appears to have been revived by PTS Diagnostics USA as the Aic NOW +

I have used both the firms I will link to here. BHR were slightly cheaper, closer to where I live, and as in summer, they dispatch the kits in chilled packaging (cardboard, polystyrene and a frozen cool box container), I felt that was a consideration. Last time, they had to order for me, so I went and picked them up as I was coincidentally passing within half a mile. It doesn't look like BHR have any listed at the moment.

Both had excellent customer services, and I'm sure both would be happy to discuss any queries you might have, like expiry dates if you are buying a package of several tests.

BHR: http://www.bhr.co.uk/

Miller Medical Supplies: http://www.millermedicalsupplies.com/a1cnow-hba1c-and-diabetes-monitoring-10-test-kit-4845

Because I usually bought the 10 packs, I always used a test to calibrate against lab results when I have a formal HbA1c done. They were always within 0.1%, which bearing in mind even those results will be rounded, I found very acceptable. But, in reality, just like test strips, I am looking for consistency of results against my performance to gauge on-track or otherwise.

Madusmacus, my only concern for you is your lack of trust in anything. I fear this is just another way of you spending £115 to become dissatisfied with this too. Please do consider what you want out of it and whether your expectations are reasonable.

These days, I tend to sway towards the Libre, which is, of course, giving very different information, but you've lost confidence in that too. Or are you back to favouring it again?

if I could only find a diabetes clinic here - its almost impossible to get a doctor (but that's another can or worms) :¬)

I hear you and you are totally right but we all have different Luck with doctors hospitals treatments and belive me I have Zero luck whatsoever (I wont go into it to much but I have far worse medical problems)

If I was to give up trying to get at least an average level of medical care I would be stupid,
so I plod on trying to find a way to help myself, and mostly fail.

Thank you very much for the second link vastly cheaper than BHR
BHR refused to sell me the 10 packs as I'm not a clinic or doctor so I will try your second link.

Thanks for replying (everyone) and RIP Libre :¬)

How utterly bizarre because I bought 10 from them,............ twice, without any resistance or discussion whatsoever! It was even a 10 pack I rocked up to collect last summer. As they had had to order fresh supplies in from the US, which added a couple of days to the next day courier service, they gave me a little corporate branded tin of shortbread when I called in, for my patience. I didn't have the heart to explain anything, so MrB had some tasty morsels to nibble upon as I stabbed myself merrily!

If I recall, BHR were also cheaper than Millar, as it happens, but that was around a year ago now. If they won't supply, it's not worth trawling back through records to find what I paid.

If you buy 10, then check their expiry date so that you have a reasonable chance of using the tests at a credible rate before they expire. I used to do about one a month. They are best refrigerated, for longer term storage, but they're not overly bulky.

The Bayer /Metrika device does not seem to be made by them now, There is an A1c Now device being marketed by PTS Diagnostics in Canada, but this is either a 10 test or 20 test machine. The logo on the casing shows as 3Y who may be the manufacturer. A test done on this device reports an accurate result on the one occasion it was tested. The device is marketed as being CLIA-waived, which i presume is sales tax like our VAT. This device has to be shipped and kept refrigerated. Test strips currently expire 5/16. Device is apparently FDA approved for Medical professional use only, but will not be CE marked or meet any ISO or EU standard it is also presumably not delivering a UK compatible display result. This device is being sold through Amazon uk, but as said preciously, there are no tech details available. No mention of refrigerated shipping either.

"gave me a little corporate branded tin of shortbread when I called in, for my patience" heheheh nice :¬)

I just phone up miller nice people get new ones in stock Monday so I was told to purchase then :¬)

BHR don't even show prices on the 10 pack or 20 packs just the home use 2pack which is £51.00 plus vat (which they are happy to sell me)

Did you call BHR and ask?

Thank you for the extra info :¬)

Did you call BHR and ask?
I initialy used inquirey email form on their web site to ask for prices and I was told

Could I ask if you are a healthcare professional as these are for professional use only. If so, could I please have some more information:-
1) Which company/healthcare group do you work for?
2) Which part of the country are you in?
I can then ask your local rep to contact you with prices etc

They then said

We can offer the A1CNOW Home Test for £51.49 plus £5 carriage - http://www.bhrdirect.co.uk/shop/a1cnow-2-test-pack-home-user-test/
This is designed for home users.

Maybe I should have phoned but I gave up hehe

It does not really matter because you have all answered my question :¬)
It seems they are back in production now so ordering them wont be out of date experience :¬)

My doctor demands A1c but wont help me get blood drawm more carefully and I cant risk nerve damage again
That's the only reason I'm doing this at all :¬)

Byeeee
