Just ordered myself a table top freezer as I want to buy bulk meats, I keep slipping due to running low on stored food.

Does anyone use any of the online bulk meat buying options ? £50 for example and do you get a lot more than ordering £50 worth from local supermarket ? any preferences ?

Looking to get Chicken, Sausages not containing gluten etc.. and even steak burgers, bits of steak, eggs etc...

Cheers for any help.

I don’t as I’m not sure of the quality of the bulk deals. I like to be able to select nice, fatty cuts of meat so prefer to pick my own.

The only online bulk order I made was from a butcher where the quality was known and I ordered a quarter lamb. It wasn’t cheap but it was delicious.

I make sure I always have cheaper, basic stuff like mince, eggs and bacon in stock as well as a back up tin or two of corned beef.

The stuff you linked above would be far too lean for me.

A good trick is to pick up plenty of ‘yellow sticker’ items from supermarkets. With a freezer you can buy more than you immediately need. There are sometimes some great offers.

I am with you in wanting more fatty cuts, Apart from my Chicken breasts I also would prefer my red meat to have more fat on it.

The yellow sticker stuff in supermarkets is great when you catch it but so hit and miss and not dependable, Plus would prefer to get everything in all at once to save multiple trips through the week.. I tend to order takeaways when I run out of things in the freezer to cook up so having plenty of meats frozen and ready to go is what i'm aiming for.

Chicken
Tuna
Steak
Steak Burgers
Sausage without gluten/wheat and all the other stuff would be ideal
Basically anything I can quickly toss on the George Forman.

Do you have a local butchers? They often do deals on freezer packs etc, mine does daily and weekly deals. There is a great butcher a few miles from me that delivers nationally- can’t for the life of me remember their name - I’ll have a think see if I can find a link

Do you have a Lidl near you? Their meat is good value and generally decent quality too. And very keenly priced.

Our excellent local butcher does various "packs" throughout the year, and an extra few around the festive season.

I must admit we don't buy those, we just buy what we want. If we have been running the freezers down, or been away we'll make up out own pack.

The thing about a local butcher is you get to know each other and they'll tell you what's extra nice that day or week. More often than not when our bill is added up it'll be rounded down a bit, or extras (like additional rind for crackling) thrown in.

The only thing out butcher does badly in is their only gluten-free sausages are bought in and frankly dire. I mean DIRE. For their non GF sausages they make them in house. They seem to be afraid of a mixture mix-up and making someone ill, or worse.

It's hard to beat a decent butcher.

I just buy supermarket special offers.
Key is to parcel up into individual portions, label (it can all look very similar when frozen, sharpie pens write well on plastic and cling film) date, and at breakfast think what do I need to defrost for tonight and put it into the fridge then.

Lidl at the minute have offers on chicken breast, about 13 or 14 for £12.99
