I have type 1 diabetes and i know it affects the bodies ability to heal and i want a tattoo so if anyone is a diabetic tattoo artist or has had tattoos and knows if/ how it will affect things please let me know thank you

Diabetes can affect wounds healing , and I suppose a tattoo is in effect a wound , I’ve got 10 and a half tattoos and must admit never had a problem with any , just followed the instructions of the aftercare and was fine , when I had mine I used Berbanthen (nappy rash cream) but I’ve since heard they use other stuff nowadays , just keep an eye on bs and ull be fine , be aware tattoos are addictive and 1 is rarely enough lol

My understanding is that high blood sugars can affect healing rather than the diabetes.
If your diabetes is managed well, you should heal as well as someone without diabetes.

I know of a few people with diabetes and tattoo (I don't because I am afraid of needles :)). They have no problems.

High blood glucose can affect healing, including healing of a tattoo.
So it depends on your numbers if getting a tattoo poses additional risk.

Hi, I’ve got quite a few tattoos and they’ve all healed no problem and within normal healing time.

Hi,

Firstly get recommendations from former customers. Follow the after care advice from the tattooist..

I have some black & tan artwork HR Giger’esq art. From my experience, expect to feel like being gouged with a spoon on the filling in.?
Chose a design you feel you could live with… if you are a “blank canvas” enjoy the experience & the change in body image.

But above all.. I do suggest keeping the BGs in check whils you heal.? I’ve always been a fast healer, even when wayward with the management…
