I went into hospital for eye surgery three days ago, and am a Type 2 diabetic with good control.
Just prior to going into Theatre my BG levels were checked by the nurse and it was 4.8.
I had fasted from 6pm the previous day and this was taken at 2pm by the nurse.
However when I arrived back home at 7pm that evening my level had gone to 14.3
Now I did have two ginger biscuits and a cup of tea upon coming round in hospital so expected a small rise but I've never ever had a reading above 11
Does anyone know if this is what anaesthetic does, or could it be stress to my body with the operation?
