Does insulin freeze?

Yes, another numpty question off me :oops:
Up at the stables today where everything and everyone (yes, including the horses! Mine had icicles hanging off his whiskars :lol: ) was frozen. As soon as I empted water buckets and put them down, 2 minutes later the traces of water left were ice.
I have an insulin pen that I keep locked away in the room where we keep saddles etc.

Would that have frozen? I don't know the exact scientific components of insulin so wouldn't know if it freezes!

Insulin can and does freeze if stored in the wrong conditions. :shock:

Extremes of cold and heat will destroy it. It will probably be useless now, or at the very least not as effective if kept outside of the recommended temperatures so if you have a spare change to that. Do you know the actual temperature where you left it ?

Always make sure your Insulin when in use is stored at room temperatures.....not warehouse temperatures. :(
 
Ok thanks Cugila - I was going to change it anyway but was just wondering if it did freeze or not!
The room it's kept in is just a concrete room as part of the stable block, I keep one there just as an emergency incase I haven't brought one!

as cugila says yes it can, try keep your monitor near your body too as while at the stables in the cold mine plays up, they dont always work right in too hot or cold conditions :D

I go fishing a lot all year round but more in the winter I fish 48 hrs in - conditions where's the best place to keep my insulin to keep it at the right tem
