Does it matter where on the finger you prick for blood?

I just realised today I may have been taking my blood sugar readings wrong. Instead of pricking the tips of my fingers, I've been getting blood from the sides of my fingers further down. Nearly about halfway down the finger actually. Will this make my readings inaccurate?

On the side is fine. I do it next to the nail on the side (never smack dab in the middle of the pad, too many nerve ending there!). But all in all, if you're getting a good drop there, more power to you.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I actually find not only does it hurt less halfway down my index or middle finger, blood more easily pops out of there.
