Does It Matter ?

Hi

Just wondered if anyone had any advice?

I was diagnosed in 1999 at the age of 39 as type 2. After 6 months of Metformin I was put on Novomix 30 and taken off the Metformin. While on Novomix I have also used Byetta and Victoza and now are on Apidra and Lantus. I am still a attending my local hospital.

While talking one night to my wife we realised that since being on Insulin I have not had thrush or atheletes foot, which I used to get every 6 or 7 weeks. I went to my GP and looked through my notes and realised that this all started in 1990, when I was quite slim, played football twice a week and went swimming every Sunday. She admitted, with hindsight, that they should have sent me for a blood glucose test at that time.

Last year I had a GAD antibody test which came back negative( I have since been told that it needs to be done before starting Insulin therapy, so a bit late with that one too.)

So to my question. Does it matter what Type someone is in relation to the treatment offered? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Not so much for the treatment really. I think it's nice to know for personal reasons but ultimately you are insulin dependant or non insulin dependant. A lot of the docs I see now don't really talk about T1 or T2 anymore.
