Does not eating stop you from getting a pump?

I have a severe, rare bowel condition, I’m trying hard to get a stoma bag so I don’t have to end up starving myself anymore.

i would just like to know if they stop you having a pump if you are starving yourself?

If you are starving yourself gains the advice of the medics, that could be a concern for them, in terms of pumping.

Obviously I have no idea what your condition is and why starvation could be helpful, so I can onlŷ make a form of general observation.

I have EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. Every single thing I eat causes a bad reaction. Diarrhoea, vomiting/nausea, fatigue. (Malnutrition, low bone mass. Which happens in long term, I have had it for 4 years. So I’m malnourished and now have low bone mass.) if I starve myself then I don’t have the bad reactions and can live my life.

Do you have an indication they are considering stopping your pump?
You'll need insulin regardless of what you eat so I don't see the logic in taking away your pump at all.

Are you on medication for this?

You'll still need nourishment, you can't live on air alone.
Are you in close contact with your endocrinologist about your condition?

Wish you all the best!

I haven’t got it till the 4th July. That’s why I am asking if they could stop it if they find out I don’t eat.
I tried the medication but it wouldn’t work, they said I could try more but I’d have to fund it myself and not on the NHS because it costs a lot of money,
I had a dietitian but they went on maternity leave and I didn’t get a replacement.

What are you drinking/eating?
If you're not having anything at all you'll likely be in hospital before the 4th july.

I’m eating little bits. Fruit mainly. Drinking water, fizzy, squash, juice, energy drinks. I do have ice pops as well as they don’t affect my stomach.
I don’t know why I have to fund them. I suppose they’re not on the NHS as they are quite new medications. I’m waiting to get the surgeons opinion on the stoma bag. If I can get that then it might be better for me.

Are following the advice that the dietitian gave you (before maternity leave)? I guess she gave you a list of foods that would minimise your symptoms.

It’s gotten worse after she left.
She went on maternity leave last year, not back till September this year.
It wasn’t so bad when she was helping, as she knows a lot about EPI (my condition). But after she left things started to get worse. I’m now being sick during my episodes after I eat. Which never happened before. No other dietician will know about EPI. It’s not just certain foods, literally everything I eat causes a reaction. There is no food that gives no reaction. The only thing that doesn’t really affect me is ice pops but I don’t really know the nutritional value for them.

Hi,

I don’t feel there is much going on nutritionally. Just a flavoured ice bar, top heavy in sugar?
A quick reference to the brand you favour would be a little more precise..
