Hiya x.
I'm type one diabetic. I want to know that if your sugar levels are above 10 can it stop my mental health meds from working. I swear sometimes I wake up & my sugar level's are above 10 & because I also have hypothyroidism it takes alot longer for the insulin to bring me down. Don't feel safe without my meds & sometimes I have to wait for over 2 hours for my sugar level's to go down below 10. Does the amount of sugar in my blood effect my meds? Super paranoid! Cheers, H x

I,m type2 and take 2 types of mental health meds.
On the odd occasion my levels are high, I have, t noticed that the meds Don, t work.
I have no idea if it's different with people taking insulin

Hi @Hlt
I take levothyroxine as well as being type 1 for the past 44 years.

I sort of get where you are coming from but I suppose I am so aware of drifting higher that I always try to action lowering my BG's before they have been above 8-9 for more than an hour.
I don't always succeed but for the most part by lots of testing and correcting where required I don't get very many episodes of +10 BG's
sorry if this doesn't help ............

Hi
Perhaps asking a pharmacist where you get your prescription dispensed. Pharmacists have an extensive knowledge, or know how/where to find the information, and will usually (in my experience) be happy to discuss this with you. :)

Will do that tomorrow Energize! Thanks for a simple solution xxx

What mental health meds are you on @Hlt ? I wouldn't have thought high blood sugar levels will actually stop them from working. However, high blood sugar might exacerbate some of the symptoms that mental health meds are designed to treat and make it feel like the meds aren't working.

Unless your doctor or pharmacist has told you to wait until you are <10 to take your meds, I don't think there's any need to avoid taking them while you are waiting for your blood sugar to drop.
