Does this sound like diabetes? Or am I over reacting?

I do not have diabetes
i have been suffering with insomnia (falling asleep around 6am) and will usually wake up in the middle of the day or evening (3-5PM). I am scheduled to see a psychiatrist because I thought it may be anxiety related. It has been roughly 6 weeks dealing with this now.

Anyway, I have been having these spells whereas I never had this before. It's difficult to describe but I think I may be diabetic or this may be blood sugar problems because of my lifestyle currently.

I am only eating one meal around 9pm as when I wake up I'm not hungry and feel sluggish tired and have to force myself out of bed. When I do wake up I've been having spells where I get hot (my whole body feels on fire), I sweat in my hands and feet, I get dizzy, I can't concentrate and laying down doesn't help. I feel rapid heart beat and a flutter in my chest.

After eating around 9pm maybe 20 minutes afterwards I pass out asleep for an hour or so. It doesn't matter what I'm doing i just drift off.

When I wake up I feel rapid heart rate like I just ran a mile and need to eat something RIGHT THEN which a few prices of chocolate seems to help.

I am only in my 20s. I have gained about 25 pounds in the past year and a half and I don't exercise like I should. But I'm still only 5'4 and 140 pounds. Anyways, I spoke to my doctor as this just started happening in the past 6 weeks and he thought it was anxiety related and referred me to a psych.
Could this be diabetes? Or could these be symptoms brought on by the fact my sleep schedule is wonky and im practically fasted for 20-ish hours? I really don't want to go pester my doctor again without more knowledge. He didn't seem to want to check for other issues.

May I suggest back to your doctor for some blood tests. In fact, I'd demand it. It is HIS responsibility to take care of you and rule out other conditions.

It could be any number of things (and no, none of us can advise), but unless he does HIS job, you won't get to the bottom of it. Best Mike :)

Thanks Mike!

I am calling to schedule again in a few hours when they open. I was just desperately searching online for answers because I haven't the slightest idea what's going on. :( In my mind it seems like blood sugar issues possibly.

We'll see what happens! I'll try and demand it! :)

Good :) Do it. Unless you undergo those tests you just wouldn't know ... and neither would we :) Online results are just wild imaginings you shouldn't even take into account.

You cannot be feeling all that flash on 1 meal a day and again, your GP should be on top of that

If he / she resists, change doctors. I know I would. Best

This is a part of my life everyday of the week for the last 4 years I too have had all those feelings in the past 2 years but these past weeks its been happening all the time id get ya self checked asap dont suffer like I did for so long

You could always pop into the chemist and ask for a blood glucose test, just a simple finger prick. Certainly make an other appointment with the Dr, but this might help put your mind at ease until you get to see them.

I feel your pain of insomnia I suffer with sleep apnea and insomnia maybe you could speak to your gp about having a test for sleep apnea
..it's a over night test with just a bp machine on that monitors your sleep... I did and I now have a machine to help me sleep... (not that it's doing much wonder tonight) or maybe a small course of sleeping pills? Normally it takes me about 2 weeks after a small course of them to get back into sleeping habits... Hope you find something to help you soon x

it's quite likely emotional but the Dr really needs to run a full blood test to rule out a physical reason for your emotional state
