Hi I went to see the diabetes dr on Monday and he said he wanted to start me on metformin but because I have aplastic anaemia as well he wanted me to see the specialist nurse. I spoke to my aplastic anaemia consultant and he said I should have metformin but now I'm being told today by the nurse a very rude one however that I need glimepiride 1mg I am depressed enough already and my consultant said I should take metformin because any other drugs will relapse my condition I don't want to take this tablet and I certainly won't be fingerpricking now she even thinks that as I've lost a stone in weight over the last 6 months it might be type 1 I told her I've been on diet pills and am borderline anorexic she's just not listening to me at all my hba1c was 86 who do I listen to here?? Help

Could you ask to be referred to your local diabetes team at the hospital? They should have more experience in dealing with people with multiple heath issues and contra-indications with medications. Are you having treatment for your depression? many people with long term health issue can suffer and asking for help has no shame, whether its a talking therapy, cbt or a course of tablets. If your "diet pills" aren't prescribed, please consider stopping taking them, although losing weight is usually a good thing for type 2 diabetics (the less visceral fat you have the more your insulin reduces) if you have eating issues they won't help. It sounds like your Doctor has some common sense, go back and see them and explain your situation. If you get fluster/forget things write it all down before you go.

I've just been prescribed antidepressants yesterday after fighting for months for them because my consultant was reluctant to prescribe them coz of the blood condition I will ask for a hospital referral too I've stopped the diet pills too.

Hi. Yes, I would stop taking the diet pills. If you were overweight before taking the pills you are likely to be a T2 and Metformin would be the normal start tablet but as it only has a limited effect it might not be wise to take it if there are concerns about the anaemia. Glimepiride is usually targeted at those who are Late onset T1 and possibly not the best match for you if T2? As you have some eating disorders it is not possible for us to propose the right way forward for you. Normally the advice is to reduce the carbs to reduce both weight and blood sugar. If you feel able to do that then great and you could do this before taking any tablets, but I think you need to seek more specialist advice?

My Bmi was 30 2 years ago and now I'm
23 I am also hyperthyroid and on eltrombopag. It's like the nurse is adamant I'm type 1 I really don't think I can work with her somehow
