Before I was diagnosed I had no symptoms but was obviously in a poor shape physically. My wife and I visited a colleague in Sweden who is in mid 70s. He really looked after us cooking lots of excellent meals such as steak tournedos rossini and going over the top by doing things like rolling par boiled potatoes in oats and then frying them. We drank wine, beers and spirits and his wife even made things like cardamon cake. When he reached out for a second piece however, she said, 'Ingemar - your diabetes!' That was the only indication we had for everything else seemed quite normal. In fact, he was more active in his 70s that I was in my 50s. He enjoyed a smoke too, as did I. I gave up though last year. That's worth doing if only because it is so expensive.
