Type 2 Dosage Level

Dear colleagues,

My questions are (details below):
1). Am I taking any risk by reducing my medication from 2 to 1 tablets?
2). How do I work out the correct dosage?

I am a 41 year old male with type 2 diabetes (I was diagnosed last year). I weigh around 107kg with no significant change in weight since my diagnosis.

Through medication, I was able to quite quickly bring my blood sugars down to the required levels. I am currently taking Gloycophage SR 1000mg (twice a day). I also regularly check my blood sugar to make sure that I am on track.

I also exercise regularly, particularly over the weekends (cycling).

For the last couple of weeks, I have been noticing through my blood sugar monitor that my sugar levels in the mornings were normal even if I don't take my evening dosage (pre-breakfast, the readings over the last 7 days have been 6.9, 6.5,6.4,7.5,7.0,6.2,6.0).

Where I have occasionally tested 2 hours or more after eating, the readings have been 5.8,8.9,6.5,7.8.

So, for the last couple of days, I have been taking only 1 tablet in the morning without any apparent adverse impact.

Any feedback on the questions mentioned above will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello @hampshire2017 and welcome to the forum :)

On this question you will need to consult your diabetic nurse, none of us here can advise on changes with medication, is there any reason in particular why you wish to reduce your dose ?

P.s. Also a fan of cycling, nothing like the fresh air and an open road :)

Given that there is no risk of hypos with Gloycophage(Metformin) , why do you wish to reduce the dose?

Thx.

Why should I take the medicine if the sugar levels are in control (or at the very least reduce my dosage to what is needed)?

Apologies if I am being pedantic but just want to understand.

Regards,

Personally as I don't get side effects from metformin intend to keep taking it until I have had at least one years with of A1c below 35.
