Lots of people have views on climate change. As subjects to disagree about I find it hard to think of weather forecasting as "loathsome". We have a local weather forecasting service and they frequently report stuff the "popular media" "create climate change hysteria" about has happening before from their 150 years of records. Sensationalism sells papers and ratings. To point out the facts are being sensationalised does not make someone loathsome. To hold a different view to the "popular media" does not make someone loathsome. Well; certainly not if the focus is weather especially given the acceptance of agro chemical behaviour having a more immediate influence on the future of the planet. Inflicting pain, harm, suffering to people or animals, especially shooting them for fun; that imho is loathsome although i know that some people think it acceptable.
- weather forecasting is not the same as predicting climate change, this video may help illustrate the difference http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/02/weather-versus-climate-change-cosmos-video_n_5432366.html
- around 97% of publishing climate scientists agree that humans are responsible for climate change, rather than being overstated by media sensationalism, some argue that the media underplay the case by wanting to present 'both sides' of the argument and end up giving the 3% dissenters equal airtime to the 97% consensus
- is thought that if climate change proceeds at its present rate, people are likely to die from floods, famine, heat or cold
- somebody might reasonably consider it loathsome if an unqualified but persuasive individual argues against the majority view of experts so successfully that efforts to mitigate climate change are so diminished that people suffer and die
- weather forecasting is not the same as predicting climate change (I know I've said that already but I thought the point was so important that it was worth repeating ;-))
