soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I bought a selection of dreamfields pasta by mail and cooked a carefully measured portion (56g exactly) for my lunch. I had it with a portion of cod in butter sauce and a couple of fresh tomatoes. I'd answered an ad in "Balance" for a free meter, which arrived this morning, so I tried it 2 hours after lunch. What a shock 7.9!!!
I still have a stash of Starlix, so I was able to knock it back again: 4.1 an hour later, so then I shared a banana with grand daughter :?
But what a disappointment!
I've had Dreamfields before and it's not done that. And I cooked it exactly according to the instructions.
I'll be very careful if I ever dare have it again.. I'm due an HbA1c soon, so I don't want to climb up off the 5% sofa.

Hi shygirl.

I think the 7.9 shock is just a personal thing for Hanadr.

I think you are a T2 ? If so the readings for Bg levels for 2009 from NICE are as follows:

Fasting (waking).................between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals................no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

Obviously the lower the better.

Ken.

I had some spag bol tonight, lovely!

Dreamfields does not have any negative on my BS. I cook the spaghetti for 9 minutes from dumping it in boiling water. Funny thing is, I used to eat lots of pasta with a bit of sauce, now it's reversed and I can't manage their recommended portion size.

Hi,
I haven't eaten well lately due to problems. I'm not sure who to believe anymore but want to get my numbers down by Nov. I'm guilty of not testing my levels enough , it's laziness combined with dread and worry that i'll use the test sticks up too quickly. Depressing!

Don't get downhearted, I don't test very regularly either and my last HbA1c was 5.3!!!

Just spend a couple of weeks testing regularly to see which foods you can eat, then stick with those. You will use a lot of strips up at first but as you learn more about the foods you can handle, the need for testing decreases. You can then save your strips for testing new foods in the future!

Best of luck!

Dave

PS I avoid carbs totally first thing in the morning, think this has helped a lot!

Hi Dipsticky,

Yes, it is more expensive than ordinary supermarket pasta and unfortunately their only retail outlets are a very few independent health food shops - mostly in the south east. Most people buy it online. They could really do with getting one of the big chains like Holland & Barrett to stock it, but they don't seem particularly bothered about increasing their UK market. Daft really because H&B is a US company and Dreamfields is available in all their US stores!

Here's a link to their UK website
