Dreaming of Carbs

Hi all - I've been converted to the LCHF lifestyle since the New Year (took me the month of December to research and decide to make the change).

Overall it's been going really well for me. I'd already lost around 66lbs over 2 years on a low fat moderate carb diet, but I've lost another 12lbs in the first month of being on LCHF without really trying - though the pattern has been interesting...I lost 6lbs very quickly then bounced up and down between 2lbs on...2lbs off...2lbs on...week on week then suddenly another 6lbs have just dropped off. The lifestyle suits me and I am very much enjoying my food without any sense of deprivation or being hungry. On top of that my fasting bloods have gone from around 12 (due to Christmas indulgence - were previously between 7-8) down to the 5-6 range every morning.

BUT

for the last few nights I have been dreaming of eating carbs....big fat naan breads, toast, cupcakes etc....every night. I'm fine when I'm awake, but my subconscious mind obviously has other ideas. Not sure if it's something to do with having had surgery last Tuesday or the fact that I now have had a bit of a dodgy tummy as a result for the last few days. It's just bizarre and does make it harder to be bouyantly happy at a plate of carb free food very first thing in the morning. Not prepared to go back as this is working so well for me, but just wondered if anyone else experienced something the same when they were fairly new and (please) does it just go away?!

Some 30 years ago my wife and I went on what was called then a, Protein Only Diet. Zero carbs but all the eggs meat cheese etc you wanted. You could only do it two weeks at a time and had to take a multivitamin pill. That had a little bit of a sugar coating. One week into the diet we would crave that pill and its sweetness coursed through the body like a tidal wave. 30 years on and I am staying away from that type of diet, ones where you play with your body's chemistry. I find them, unpredictable so I am cutting down on carbs and fat and being careful. I now get cravings for crunch or things with a bit of bite. Fortunately there are a number of crispbreads with things like sesame seeds added. With lots of different but suitable toppings for them, I find them a suitable alternative to things like crisps. I don't think I could do without any carbs. Certain tastes, textures, smells take you back to your childhood subconsciously and if others around you are having them, you get a craving yourself.
