Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask if anyone else has ever had a dream about going hypo and then woken up from it to find that your blood sugar level is actually low? I usually shoot up in bed after it and just know that I am having a hypo. This is usually how my body awakes me or I wake up sweating :(

Yes I have done this before...I dream that I've woken up, tested my blood sugar and found it's low, and then gone to find something to eat....and then I wake up for real! The brain is a very strange thing...
xx

I haven't...

BUT..

i have had dreams where my alarm clock interferes with them like the sound will fit into my dream somewhere, then i wake up and it's going off and dreams i'm going to the toilet and i wake up and need to pee.

weird huh!

I've never had a dream that I was having a hypo and woken up to one but I do have dreams where I get extremely hungry and it wakes me up and I know I am having a hypo. It's quite a good early warning system but very strange that the brain has that protection mechanism and will wake you up in order to get some sugar.

As a T2 who is no longer using insulin hypos are for me a thing of the past but like ebony I regularly incorporate the real into my dream state, only the other night I dreamed I was holding a cross between a sat nav and a mobile phone and as I touched the screen there were three loud beep-beebs, it was my wifes alarm going off and after three double bleebs she had hit snooze and I woke up wondering what I had been holding in my dream :D

I would imagine that when you wake up having dreamed you were hypo your subconscious knew you were and that is why you thought you dreamed it but in fact you had been half awake due to the hypo, sounds plausible to me anyway

Yes I have dreamt that I was having a hypo and woke-up low, must be our sub-conscious mind watching out for us during sleep! :D

yes!! all the time me nad my t1 friend were discussing this today  thats weird i found this. ill dream of my doctor or nurse having a hypo in clinic or support meeting normally and when i wake up i know im hypo lol its really strange how the brain knows your hypo

I've had this where in my dream I was testing my BGL and my meter read I was at 3.6 (I start getting hypo symptoms during day at <4.5 and at night <4)... although I didn't wake up. When I did finally wake up I had that post hypo feeling and my BGL was higher than usual. This morning I was dreaming some weird dream about trying to get out of bed and get dressed.... I woke up this morning feeling post hypo and I tested a few times and my BGLs were steadily rising.... tell tale sign for me too. I know that post hypo feeling too well and I dislike it a lot partly because I wished I had woken up to treat the hypo in the first instance, and partly because it gets your day off to a horrible start as it's a different feeling from just being tired and just trying to wake up. I've discussed the night hypos with my endo before and he suggests dropping basal insulin... but I've done that and can still get the same result. Plus usually when I drop it he tells me to bring it up again. So unpredictable this condition! (mind you I have other health issues that don't make it easy)

Yes I always dream that I am really thirsty and need to get lucozade .. then wake up with the shakes treat it with lucozade and then go downstairs and eat the contents of the fridge as a night time hypo gives me an incurrable hunger...anyone else get that too??

I used to get this but more of dreaming of eating and waking up with low sugar, I had a nasty trait of not waking up with nocturnal hypos
