Additionally you are sometimes advised to contact your insurers - by all means check if you want to with your company, but in general these days they aren't concerned if the DVLA doesn't need to be informed.

They get concerned if you have a claim and they find out you did not inform them. They will class it as a pre-existing condition and may invalidate your claim. This can also happen with health insurance where my claim for hospital costs following a stroke was turned down since it was deemed to be a consequence of being diabetic

When I contacted my insurers I was quite clearly told they weren't interested in any condition unless I was obliged to notify the DVLA about it and that was the case in general. That isn't to say some others wouldn't so I guess do it for peace of mind.

Nevertheless, the doctrine of Uberrima fides covers insurance contracts so to stop them squirming out of their responsibilities, it is better to tell them (and have it noted that you have done so).

Not clearly of use if they tell you they won't note it. Even if you have noted you have told them :)

Still I do think it is a good idea to cross the t's on this otherwise I wouldn't have brought it up in this thread.

Taking it to extremes I suppose if they really considered medical history important in their underwriting they would require examinations of everyone ...
