Hi all I am new to this forum. I have had diabetes for 18 months have been treated as a type1 until about 2 months ago where I am now a type 2.
I am treated with metformin and simvastatin and no insulin or byetta.
The DVLA have unrestricted my license until my 70th birthday (I am 39 yrs old), however my license has arrived in the post today without cat D1 ie minibus.
I wanted this for the rugby club bus and the riot vans at the police station (I am serving special constable).
Is this correct?
Any help would be massive!

From what I can tell, unless insulin-treated there's no automatic bar to a diabetic driving a minibus, although if insulin-treated you would be classed under the Group 2 standards (ie the same as an HGV). The Group 1 standards (ie private cars) are more lenient as regards insulin.

Have a look at the document which is linked to towards the bottom of the link below, which covers the issue chapter and verse and there's a whole chapter on diabetes.

It's called 'At a glance', but I think they must be taking the Mick
