Hi I am diabetic type 2 and have recently had insulin injections removed from my treatment which is now tablet controlled only. As I drive on a medical licence because of insulin injection do I now need to tell DVLA that I no longer take insulin?

I think you need to tell dvla and your insurers of any change in medication
If your tablets are ones that can cause hypos ( sulfonylureas like Gliclazide) the dvla only seem to get routinely involved if you are driving on an hgv licence etc rather than just the normal car / bike licence, you also need to make them aware if you are having hypos where you need assistance while you are on the new meds same as insulin

How close are you to the end of the 3yr period (if that's what you're on). Does this mean that you will be applying for an unrestricted license soon. For a smooth transition, give DVLA plenty of time to write to your doc.

Whether or not you 'need' to tell them only you can decide. The conditions of a restricted licence will remain in place until it is cancelled -simply because it is your current licence.

Hi @Ray1949 In spite of not having to take anything for Type 1 since 2013 (Kidney/pancreas transplant), the DVLA's computer is foxed by anything which isn't in its tickbox system. Since finding this out in 2005, I have 2 hospital letters to underline that I will not Hypo at the wheel (or any other time) and I shall again write a letter explaining the finer points. Good luck with your endeavour

Just contact dvla theyll let u know exactly what to do.....theyll want doctors reports etc and it does take some time....in the meantime u can continue to drive as long as theres no change to your condition
