hi
I have been type 2 for 4 years on tabs, bloods are getting worse so insulin looking imminent,if I inform dvla will they suspend my licence?I have seen the form that you have to fill in.
Will my insurance company increase my premium,I am with Esure,
thanks

I was listening to a feature on Radio 4 regarding this a couple weeks ago and it seems, that although there are specific circumstances where DVLA should not issue a licence, there is no consistancy when they refuse.

It is supposed be that if you have had two severe (cannot care for yourself is the definition that they use) hypos in any 12 month period, then you don't get your licence. I think there may be other conditions too.

Hi,
I informed DVLA over two weeks ago that I was now on insulin and have yet to receive a reply. I also phoned my insurance company and it did not cost any extra.

hi ive been type2 for 7 years and immediatly informed the DVLA and my insurance company on the advice of my GP. As in most cases of insulin dependance my driving license was suspended and after an approach for medical information from my self and my GP was sent back to me as a 3 year renewable license. You say that you feel there is an inevatability in your future , however I think you may be looking at things with out seeing the whole picture. Yhere are other treatments which can be given such as Byetta for example> Don't give up talk to your GP or Diabetic Nurse specialist. I was on insulin 4 times a day and after a specialised routine of a reduction in insulin and an increasing dosage of Metformin up to 1000mg tds by which time my blood sugars were managable,I started on Byetta. I now take Byetta twice daily and 500 mg of metformin three times a day and have a blood suggar of 6.0 for the last four months and feel a lot better.By the way I have also had two heart attacks suffer with blood presurs arthritis and am asthmatic, but I always have hope !
