Type of diabetes
Type 2
I have recently been referred back to my gp to hopefully get a referral to a specialist as there is some doubt as to what type of diabetes i have. I have started testing and went from 9.7 to 4.8 in one and half hours, is this a normal drop or fast?

It's not unusual. The fact that it came down at all suggests that it is not type 1. I too sometimes watch my readings go over a cliff especially if I go out for a walk.

Well - just about what I could see when I was having symptoms of hypoglycemia when I was not eating in the mornings - I would eat around lunch time and then nosedive onto the bed in late afternoon when my blood glucose dropped.
When I ate earlier, and had just a few grams of carb, then did not eat until late I felt better.
My insulin resistance is higher in the morning, reduces in the early afternoon so I need to make sure that I have only small amounts of insulin sloshing around or my BG levels drops. Then by dinner time I must be more normal and so can eat a fair amout of carbs and process them without problems.

Depends what medication, if any you may be taking to treat your diabetes? And the context as to when these tests were taken, when had you last eaten/taken meds/done activity/been or ceased being stressed?

What has cause the doubt as to type of diabetes and when investigations have been made into this?

Sorry I should clarify, the question was not about what type i have, leaving that to the doctors and i dont care, just want the right treatment. The nurse referred me as she says i have symptoms of both 1 and 2 so may be 1.5. Not on any meds. First reading about 2 hours after eating, second 1 1/2 after that. I don't normally go so long without eating. The question was related to the speed of the drop in,levels

I have in the recent past gone from 12 to 4.3 in an hour on more than one occasion so probably it's not that unusual.

must add not on any blood sugar reducing medications.
