Hi All, New to forum so please be gentle. At the moment I am taking Metformin 500mg x 4, Gliclazide 80mg, Sitagliptin 100mg per day. Question, is this combination normal and can it contribute to the dizziness I get periodically during the day?.

Hi Clifford and welcome. This combination is fairly common among T2 diabetics who are on medication, because metformin is the first line option and then gliclazide then sitagliptin are often added if the BGs are not coming down. I really don't know about whether dizziness could be a side effect of any of them or the combination, so I think you should ask your doctor. You can find the patient information sheet for each drug by googling it, and that will show you if it's a known possible side effect for that drug. Dizziness can also be caused by a virus or changes in the inner ear, so it might not be anything to do with the meds.

How long have you had diabetes? Do you feel the medications are helping?

Hi CatLady, Thanks for your advice. I,ve had diabetes for approx. 4 years and yes the meds are doing their job, possibly too well. I say this because, at my checkups my results are all satisfactory, however, being a lazy s-d I haven't made any great effort to manage my condition apart from being more aware of what I eat. I must do better. All the Best, Ian.

Are you testing your blood glucose levels?

Glad things are going well for you. If you and your doctor come to the view that one or more of your meds could be causing the dizziness, and you come off the med(s) because of this, it may well be possible for you to still have good results by eating less of the foods that raise blood sugars, namely starchy carbohydrates like bread, potatoes, and pasta.

It's also possible that in the longer term, you might need increases in the dosages in order to maintain your good results. Many people have found this can be avoided with eating changes.
