Drugs for insulin resistance (apart from metformin)

I have a hospital consultation pending, I am currently on insulin and metformin but my insulin resistance has definitely increased since having children and putting on weight (apx 3 stone). I have heard there are new drugs that can be taken either in combination with insulin or on their own, that can help with this, or at least reduce the need for insulin which is hindering weight loss. Apparantly one that makes you pee out your sugar so that you have less sugar in your system?

Can anyone tell me what these are so I can ask the doctor. I don't want to get fobbed off by the docs so if I at least know what options there are, then I can have a proper consultation about what may be right for me rather than relying on them to suggest.

Thanks

Dapagliflozin (Forxiga) is available on the NHS.

Canagliflozin (Invokana) is currently in the approval process for being available on the NHS. These drugs are known as SGLT-2 inhibitors. There are a few people on the forum that are on Forxiga.
