Dry/Chapped/Sore Lips

Hi Everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with type 1 about 2 months ago, having had the usual symptoms preceding diagnosis, dry mouth, constant thirst, urinating, puffy eyes, tired etc.

But a few days ago my lips suddenly 'chapped up' and I had the dry throat again, thirst etc. I can't seem to stop the dryness, even with vaseline/balm they are incredibly dry and now little cracks are appearing at the sides of my mouth.

Anyone else ever experinced this? Should I be concerned?

Regards,

(1) check blood glucose levels
(2) take results to out of hours GP (by phone, probably, but may lead to a visit / meeting) or pharmacist (even though it's a bank holiday, there will be a rota when one is open in each area, perhaps for only a few hours). Either may refer you further to GP / A&E / diabetes team etc.
(3) could be many things, but I'm not going to speculate as I think it would be far better for you to get professional advice.

Hi Soleworksuk, pretty much same as above but make sure you're drinking plenty too. Could be high sugars causing you to be dehydrated, but I'm no expert and it could be 101 other things causing your symptoms. Increasing your fluid intake till you see a doctor is probably a good idea in any case.

Thanks for all the advice, will try and get to the GP on tuesday after the bank holidays, sugars are within range, mostlybetween 6-11, although a couple of spikes at 15/16 during a recent golf holiday, but am not too concerned about those at this stage. Have read lots over the last week and have developed some new symptoms which could just be cold related, now I have a very sore throat, sore ears (inflamed inner ear) and have shortness of breath, dificulty breathing through nasal passage, nausea, general inbalance, the good times are here!

I am a little paranoid and read about something called Sjorgen's syndrome, whose symptoms are similar to mine.

It's probably me being paranoid but then I wasn't expecting to be diagnosed with Type 1

Once again thanks thanks for all the advice, i'll post back and share once I have some more information, strange times.
