I'm T2 I always have dry eyes, like pricking and stinging in the mornings when I get up but I don't know if it's bcos of my Diabetes or bcos I don't fully close my eyes when I sleep as my Optician mentioned some ppl don't.I wanted some drops or ointment to lubricate my eyes at night why I'm asleep.Anyone know what's best to buy that's been recommended by a Professional.Ive seen loads of drops for Diabetics but I want be careful.TIA

I have Fuchs Dystrophy , one of the symptoms (There are many), are dry eyes during the daytime, but very blurred vision when I wake up in the mornings because the pump cells in my eyes don’t work well so my eyes become water logged. So completely the reverse of your situation @Julie27318 .

For dry eyes my eye surgeon recommends artificial tears , just over-the-counter ones. I am using GenTeal Tears. This one is for moderate dry eyes, I guess they come in different strengths. I would be inclined to ask your Pharmacist. I have bought very expensive ones, but to be honest the cheaper ones work just as well.

My optician suggested Hylo Forte, and when I was still struggling with dry eyes, the hospital eye clinic Consultant prescribed Hylo Night (it's an ointment). I now get both on prescription and like them.

Edited to add - they can both be bought over the counter.

I have dry eyes, it was suggested by a consultant rheumatologist that I try Thealoz Duo drops in the day and Hycosan Gel at night. I get both on prescription although I don’t really get on with the gel and find the drops enough, but maybe the gel might be good for you? You can buy the gel from Amazon without the need for a prescription.

Did the optician or your GP not advise on the best sort of eye drops or ointment for your eye condition, @Julie27318 ?

It is important to get the correct sort of drops or ointment. If buying over the counter meds check with the pharmacist. They need to be stored correctly, to avoid introducing infection, and some have a limited shelf life, too.

I have needed to use prescribed eye drops, Hypromellose, which help when I wake up with dry eyes. My dry eyes condition is due to allergies. I was also prescribed an ointment, as a lubricant for my eyes to use at night. I found this uncomfortable, as it blurred my vision and felt greasy. I can’t remember what it was called but I stopped using it after a couple of nights. It was messy, too, leaving stains on pillows.

Opticians are generally quite well clued up about diabetes, mainly because of identification of retinopathy.

Oh right I'll give them a try!! Thanks!!

Following the discussion because I didn't think that eye drops were contraindicated for someone with diabetes.
I'm not sure why they would.
