In what way do carbs help with the conversion of thyroid hormones? Never heard that one before.
I don’t want to derail this thread which is about dried fruit, but that article would indicate the efficacy of low carb for someone with diabetes and hypo-thyroidism. It doesn’t say anything about the helpfulness of carbs for converting thyroid hormones. Why Thyroid Disease and Diabetes May Occur Together
Thyroid disease affects blood sugar levels, which increases the risk of diabetes. Learn more about the connection here.www.verywellhealth.com
I am following the advice of my GP. I could Google to find articles etc but you can also look to find evidence if you need to. I am newly diagnosed with T2D & trying to learn about how one condition impacts on the other in addition to doing all I can to reverse the high blood sugars. It was my GP that said this about Hashimotos autoimmune thyroiditis
Your GP would not be the first to get it wrong - we might require glucose in our blood but that is not the same thing as requiring carbohydrate in our diet.I am following the advice of my GP. As with every other human being the daily requirement for carbs is exactly zero.Daily carbs zero!? My GP specifically told me to stop restricting carbs because it made my Hashimotos thyroiditis worse and I was becoming hypo. We need carbs when hypothyroid otherwise we can't convert thyroid hormones.
I think you have misunderstood what that article says. It says excess insulin can lead to hypos in someone with hypothyroidism. Why Thyroid Disease and Diabetes May Occur Together

Thanks, will have a lookAs with every other human being the daily requirement for carbs is exactly zero.
Now if you are on a medication that lowers blood sugar that would need to be carefully monitored moving to a very low carb or carb free diet, but that is very different to you must not do it.
If you have T2D and you doctor has told you not to restrict carbs I strongly suggest looking for a new doctor.
In the mean time I'd recommend popping over to youtube and looking Dr Ken Berry's channel. His wife who is a regular on the channel has Hashimotos and they discuss the interaction with that and a very low carb diet.
I'm afraid that a lot of us have discovered that doing so might not be the best thing for our health.I am following the advice of my GP.

Hi found this that I had saved a few days ago https://www.thyroid.org/patient-thyroid-information/ct-for-patients/february-2016/vol-9-issue-2-p-6/I don’t want to derail this thread which is about dried fruit, but that article would indicate the efficacy of low carb for someone with diabetes and hypo-thyroidism. I don’t doubt that there may be links between the two conditions, my question was about the role of carbohydrate in conversion of thyroid hormones. Entirely different issues. However, having started the derailment of this thread, I don’t want to continue it, but would happily engage on a new thread.Hi found this that I had saved a few days ago https://www.thyroid.org/patient-thyroid-information/ct-for-patients/february-2016/vol-9-issue-2-p-6/
Thank you Kaylee for helping, hope you can forgive a newbie
