Their website claims a 3 week turn around unless medical inquiries have to be made then it's 90 days so they say.I just got the dreaded renewal form from the DVLA.
Does anyone know how long this is taking?
I sent mine off last week and the form actually said for medical enquiries they aim to complete within 90 days.I should re phrase...lol. How long is a medical renewal taking for a type 1 insulin dependant driver? I returned my forms. I have not required the help of anyone for a hypo. I also sent a follow up letter after my last hospital visit where the consultant wrote to my GP saying that I had excellent hypo awarenes and that my HBA1C was good and that I was stable. I also was advised that I no longer have any retinopathy or Maculopathy. It seems that with my tighter control and use of the Freestyle Libre and low carbing, these complictions have been reversed. (Took about 2-3 years)
i think it just ridiculous having to renew every 1 -3 years. If they are so busy with a backlog of work, I dont know why they dont extend the medical to every 5-10 years with a clause that we and our gp should sign stating that if there is any major change in our condition, that its up to us and our GP to report.
wow. was that a medical renewal?@Omnipod My licence came back today DVLA received it on the 15th Feb and today the 24th I have a new licence. So 9 days including the weekend to process it and send it back.
Well I assume so as I have type 1 diabetes and declared I had been seen in neurology outpatients for a neurological condition. Doubt they ever wrote to any consultant though as that would take a month of Sunday's for a reply.wow. was that a medical renewal?
you are lucky. this is the fastest renewal I have heard of. I am hoping mine is as fast. I completed the forms, attached a letter and a hospital report stating that I had excellent hypo awareness. There will be no need for them to contact my consultant. Maybe they request reports by email thesedays and your consultant replied as soon as he got the email.Well I assume so as I have type 1 diabetes and declared I had been seen in neurology outpatients for a neurological condition. I don't actually have a consultant so he couldn't reply lol. In 37 or 38 years of driving no GP has ever been contacted regarding my fitness to drive. So looks as if it was done by return of post.you are lucky. this is the fastest renewal I have heard of. I am hoping mine is as fast.
