hi , this is my first post, really liking all the posts -such good information , thanx
Please can anyone reassure me, re driving licence , newly started on insulin , long story but due to kidney function came off oral medication .
Have declared this on correct form and notified insurers , no history of hypos and good understanding of checking blood sugars before driving and signs of hypo onset.
Does this usually cause no problems or is it a long drawn out /stressfull affair ?

Hi there
This process seems to vary from person to person. Mine took only a month whereas some people on here anyway have had to wait some months. Try not to worry too much about this, it is a process we all have to go through. And worry/stress will not, help your BG levels.

Thanks for reply , you're right re stress but really matters, I'm worried because it's a new issue informingDVLA . I really need to drive for work and home life.

They will decide upon receiving your application whether to issue you with a 1, 2 or 3 year licence, recognising hypo's and not needing a third party assistance in dealing with them is a plus so your on the right tracks.

It may take some time for them to get back in touch, however if you have concerns then contact the DVLA helpline, I renewed mine earlier this year and it took them around 8 weeks for them to issue my licence, this was because they were doing some checks but usually it only takes around 4 weeks.

Thanks for reply, suppose it's a case of waiting , it gives me an idea of timescales.
