I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last week I haven't yet told my insurance company and the DVLA I'm wondering what will happen when i inform them

Hi and welcome
If you go onto the DVLA web site it will explain all to you unfortunately you must tell them and then it's up to them if they allow you to drive as long as you are in control of your diabetes there's no reason why you should not be able to keep driving .

They'll be no change to your insurance and they'll just record this on their notes, when you inform the DVLA they will send out a Diab1 form to fill in and you will be given a 1, 2 or 3 year restricted driving licence.

I was recently diagnosed as type 1 as well, I rang DVLA and told them and they sent out a questionaire for my to fill in, basically asking who your doctor is and your consultant, then they get in touch with them just to make sure your alright to drive..... then they will send you a letter to say that you have to send your driving license off and they will send another one back that only lasts a certain amount of time.... mine lasts 3 years until they have to review it... hope this helps! :)
