Hi all,

I had a rather humiliating hospital appointment last week, in which I was told that I did not know how to use my pump correctly (had it 3years) but i have never had any training on it at all. I've recently moved areas so that's why my diabetic team up here in Scotland were so confused as to why nobody offered me training on the pump back home.

Anyway, I am looking for ebooks or online places for information and education on pumps and cab counting etc. Anything hubby will make it easier To manage.

Any recommendations?

TIA.

Contact your pump manufacturer to get a user guide... or is it more the interaction between the pump and your bg levels that you need help with?

Think like a pancreas is brilliant, bit about pumps, bit about carb counting and written in an easy to understand way! good luck.

Second that: Think Like A Pancreas, Gary Scheiner. Kindle etc from Amazon. Very practical book, lots of careful, detailed instructions.

Good luck.

I'll try think like a pancreas. It's more the interaction with bg and carbs and pump etc I want to learn about.

Thanks for replying :).

Try the following which is an on-line version of the DAFNE course for carb counting:

As for a book on using insulin pumps, a book that comes highly recommended by the pump users on this forum is Pumping Insulin by John Walsh & Ruth Roberts, not sure if it's available as a ebook.

Thank you for that, I will have a look. I've just bought pumping insulin, so will start reading tonight.

Didn't they offer you training?

Seems unprofessional to criticise you for lack of knowledge, then send you out the door without offering you a way to find the missing info.

No, which is why I was so shocked. I was offered no advice or training, if anything my DSN at the time left it to me to show her what to do! So since moving up here the diabetes team are completely horrified! It wasn't so much criticising me, it was just humiliating for me to have to be put in that position in the first place!

I'm on a carb counting course in October and they've put me on a pump course in November, which apparently is something I should have had before I got the pump!
