To the guys above debating.. I love the ideas & posts from all angles. there are individual successes that i have no wish to undermine.(LOL, I don't live your lives.)
But, isn't the OP's partner in the "honeymoon period"?
Either way. with MDI bolusing for a "normal" diet.or on the carb counting set one a day/2 a day injection regime.?
keeping the carbs down (especially the spikey stuff.) & thus insulin dosage down would have less impact with the hypos in the random events of an unruly Pancreas splutter..? (At least during the Honeymoon?!!)
I dunno... I've only been diagnosed a few weeks ago myself and I might very well be in the "honeymoon period" as well, and from what I have experienced, if I don't have enough carbs in my meals (i.e. within the moderate range...) then I'm bound to end up getting hypos. That's how I know that low carb wouldn't work for me at this point. I went through a period of "trial and error" - still going through it, actually - and found that even on the lower end of a "moderate carb" diet, my bs was still dropping too low. The doctor ended up lowering my dosage because of that. (Note: I'm only speaking for myself... and I am definitely not saying that one should overload on carbs just because it's their "honeymoon".
My guess is that for now, it's about finding that balance so that my bs won't go too low during those times that my pancreas decides to sporadically release small amounts of insulin, and also so that it won't go to high when it doesn't...
