I have just submitted a complaint to the BBC regarding the current Eastenders storyline as follows :

Thousands of people have proved that the adverse effects of diabetes can be significantly reduced through a change of diet to "LOW CARB " - see http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/success-stories-and-testimonials.43/ and dietdoctor.com. Diabetes is the single biggest issue facing the NHS. Thousands of people are tackling this for themselves by cutting out carbohydrates and most FRUIT - other than those with very low carb - ie berries. Eastenders has the opportunity to educate millions about the benefits of switching to a low carb diet . Ian Beale is both eating the wrong diet and reinforcing bad dietary messages every time he opens his mouth about his diet . Do your research properly and find people who have successfully overcome diabetes rather than relying on tired old mantras that are costing the country millions and the lives and health of its citizens. Do the country a favour, have Jane find the right website - www.diabetes.co.uk and have Ian follow the diet recommended there.

Maybe others might like to try a variation on the theme ?

Brilliant

I totally get that it is too late to change this, however - its important to make the point at any and every opportunity ,

including to Diane Abbott and the BBC

Here it is if anyone still interested:

I understand you feel the storyline concerning Ian Beale's diabetes has been poor and inaccurate.

Although we wouldn’t always condone the things our fictional characters do or say, it’s important for the sake of the drama that they be allowed to express views we might not agree with.

We hope most viewers will appreciate that Ian Beale isn’t presented as a medical expert and that he doesn’t speak with any authority on the facts of diabetes. That said, your feedback has been noted and circulated to the programme makers.

We do appreciate your feedback on this issue and as such I have sent your complaint directly to senior management as well as the programme’s production team via our Audience Feedback Report. This report is among the most widely read sources of feedback in the BBC and can help inform decisions about future programming.

Once again thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Kind regards

I've got the same reply - who knows maybe one day a " producer " will actually listen :)
