Fruit... Tonight I had steak, steamed vegetables, and half a fresh, organic peach. Blood glucose 1-hour post meal was 164 mg/dL (9.2 mmol/L). No problem, I'd already planned on walking it off. I can knock a blood glucose level down by 40 mg/dL easily, by 80 mg/dL if I go for an extended walk. Not this time. Got home and blood glucose was 144 mg/dL (8.0 mmol/L). Blood glucose must have still been rising. Probably knocked me out of ketosis. Oh well...

My diabetes started with years of hypoglycemia in the 80's. It's not fun.

I rarely have anything 3 hours before bed - (I fast for 12-hours) - but when I do, it's usually raw nuts, green olives, or half an avocado, usually with only a minimal increase in blood glucose level.

I think it's fine to have a small amount of fruit so long as you as you understand that it's going to drive your insulin and glucose levels up. A 20 minute walk often takes care of it. :)

Now that I have the Freestyle Libre, I have learned that any carbs in the 3 hours or so before bed makes my bg rise a bit, but then it tends to drop more than usual at 2-3am, triggering a liver dump that will keep me higher than usual for the rest of the night, and often gives me a higher Fasting than usual.

So if I fancy a late night nibble I make sure it is not carby, and not fruit.

I love fruit. :bigtears:

I love fruit to if I am having fruit it will always be before 9pm. Last night at 8.30pm I had 3 srawb / 2 raspb / 4 blueberries / with double cream. BG reading this morning was 5.5 so happy with this. Normally have a fruit dessert after my dinner but later last night.

I was told never to eat fruit as a snack. Always have it with a meal. Personally, I can't eat fruit (berries) at breakfast time or I stay higher all morning. Lunch times and tea times are better for me.

I only eat fruit as part of a meal - usually after dinner a small handful of berries with creme fraiche - if I eat fruit just on its own it raises my bs too much - I don't snack on fruit but then again I don't snack at all - I do eat a supper of a small amount of protein a couple of cherry toms and a handful of radishes and a couple of crackers - no later than 9 o'clock
