Type 2 Eating after an upset stomach

Diet only
I haven't eaten anything (other than Immodium and rehydration salts) for nearly 24 hours, because I was taken ill during the night.

I am now very weak and shaky, but still don't fancy eating anything. The immodium seems to have worked in that I was able to sit in a car and be driven home, which is where I now am.

But what should I eat as my first meal recovering from this virus or whatever it is?

I am type 2, allegedly managed by diet alone, although my diet is all over the place (although that is for another thread...)

hi, welcome, interesting question, i have been lucky enough not to get this since dx where as normally it would be some dry toast, i wonder if maybe a rivita or two would do the job, just guessing though, i look forward to seeing what advice you get, best wishes get well soon

Poor you! How about mashed potato, it's bland and easily digested. A little stewed apple will help to settle diarrhoea.

Ooh, that seems like a good idea.

The problem is that I know I need to eat, but I don't actually fancy eating anything, so I am a bit confused!

Have you checked your Blood Glucose level? If it's very low then yes, you need to eat something, otherwise just keep yourself well hydrated and see how you feel about food tomorrow.

I 'd go for the soup.

I wouldn't personally go for the potato or apple, as they spike me, particularly mashed.

I would agree with the ryvita, but it's not as digestible as the soup.

So tomato soup maybe?

No - I don't have any ability to measure my blood glucose, because I don't have a meter. But I am feeling very shaky, and would be surprised if it wasn't pretty low after my stomach contents have been emptied and me not eating anything.

The pharmacist told my daughter yesterday that the upset stomach may be as a result of low insulin. I am not sure that was what she meant.

Actually, on the "eat what you fancy" thing. I have just had a weetabix with milk. So far, it has stayed in place. As it were.

Hmmm, I'm not sure what the pharmacist meant by low insulin but you may well have a low blood glucose now which will add to the nausea. Years ago dairy was the last thing to be reintroduced post sickness/ diarrhoea but now the rule is whatever you fancy so fingers crossed with the weetabix and milk :)

Lol! Soup, especially tomato, spikes me! More proof that we are all different ;)

You know you can get meters for free don't you? You can then do you're own testing. Q..

I would still advocate no dairy from experience when I had a very bad case of sickness and the dreaded runs (cant spell the other thing) I was having warm milk Yuk etc to try to eat something but it just went on and on until herbalist/nutricienist told me to stop the dairy and the problem started to go It is difficult as a diabetic to find something tasty and friendly Maybe a slice of Burgen toast and a drink of hot marmite if you like savoury

Here are some sick day rules for you.

Keep hydrated js the main message and you really need to be able to test your blood sugars to know what is happening.
Could someone go to a chemist and buy you a meter? A new one usually has 10 strips with it.
Your priority is to be able to test and I hope you will be able to get a meter in the future. There is a cheap one you can buy online,
